Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day!

When a website or a document isn't accessible, it's like a door that won't open.

People who use screen readers, voice controls, or other tools may not be able to use websites that aren't built the right way.

That means they can't apply for jobs, sign up for services, or get information… just because of bad design.

Accessibility isn't extra. It's a right.

Access isn't a checklist. It's a practice.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are a good start for making digital content accessible. But color contrast, image descriptions, and captions are just the beginning.

True access can look like:

- Asking people with disabilities for feedback.

- Meeting the needs of your specific community.

- Learning how to share information in new ways.

Access is more than legal requirements. It’s a journey to make sure everyone with and without disabilities can stay connected.

What would make the world more accessible for you?

Yes! Such an important to call to make mental health inclusion a priority.

Here are three tips on how employers can lead the way in mental health inclusion and build a workplace where everyone can thrive:

1) Review your Inclusion Policies: Ensure they include mental health disabilities.
2) Train Managers: Help leaders recognize and respond to accommodation requests with empathy and clarity.
3) Normalize Mental Health Conversations: Make it safe, open, and stigma-free to talk about mental health at work.

The Onward Crew had their last session with our friends at Independence, Inc. this morning!

What an impactful, powerful, and meaningful series of Friday mornings! While we are sad to see our time with Independence, Inc end for this school year, we look forward to continued partnership with them. We also look forward to participation with the Youth Transition Alliance of Wyandotte County - YTAWC 💕

We love our KC community!

Independence, Inc. staff had a fabulous time hosting a table at the 3rd annual Piper USD 203 Cultural Showcase yesterday evening! It was another year of diversity, inclusion, experiencing other cultures, meeting families and sharing resources. (the best part was the impromptu line dancing at the end...thank you awesome DJ!)
Also, welcome our newest staff member, Nicole, who helped out at our table!
