Meet Ashley, who had a stroke in 2011. She started coming to Ability Fitness Center in 2020 with the goal of improving the flexibility of her right arm and improving her balance. All donations will go to pay off this equipment: https://thearcofloudoun.networkforgood.com/projects/186436-ability-fitness-center The ArmeoSpring provides arm weight support that allows her to achieve a higher number of arm and hand movements with less fatigue. The visual feedback during her favorite game Treasure island simultaneously works on her scanning to help with her visual deficits. Our Story

In 1967, parents of children with disabilities founded The Arc of Loudoun because they had a vision to help their family members live “a life like yours.” In December 2009, The Arc leased the Paxton Campus and, on this property, created a seven acre "safe-haven" for all people with disabilities and their families.

Today, The Arc of Loudoun, a local chapter of The Arc National, is home to five, integrated programs that serve the most vulnerable and underserved in Loudoun and the Greater DC Region—children and adults with disabilities, their families and caretakers, and the professionals who work to help them achieve their greatest potential. We are the only community-based non-profit working for people with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities throughout their lifetimes. We encompass all ages and all spectrums from autism, ASD, Down Syndrome, Fragile X, intellectual disabilities, various other developmental disabilities, and neurophysical disabilities including brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, effects from stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and cerebral palsy.

The Arc of Loudoun serves more than 6,000 people with disabilities and their families each year through its five, integrated programs:

Open Door Learning Center equips preschool children ages 2-7 of all abilities with the social and developmental skills they need to thrive in mainstream kindergarten.

The Aurora School, a year-round private day school, helps significantly challenged students ages 5-22, primarily with autism, achieve personal excellence, gain independence and vocational skills to maximize their potential. Students come from nine different school systems including MD, VA, WV, and DC.

Ability Fitness Center is for people with neurological disorders—stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, parkinson's disease, down syndrome—giving them a one-of-a-kind place to workout using specialized equipment and expert clinicians.

Aurora Behavior Clinic provides individualized 1:1 Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for children ages 2-22 with autism and other related disabilities, with a specialized curriculum focused on verbal behavior and increasing social interactions.

ALLY "A Life Like Yours" Advocacy Center fills the unmet needs of the community by providing free information on disability rights, guidance, support, events, and workshops to families and caretakers of those with disabilities and the professionals who work with them, plus social activities for adults with disabilities.
