To be clear- this is the BEST run I’ve had in well over a year.
A year of trauma
A year of physical challenges including a major surgery.
When I finally could start back- it sucked. I was winded, my legs hurt, I’m carrying more weight than my body is used to. I was chafed, sticky and defeated.
But I plodded along anyway. Because I knew if I did it would eventually feel better. And I was right. It does.
I didn’t show up to lose weight. I didn’t show up to prove any kind of stat. I showed up because that’s what I’ve always done. What I always will do.
Keep showing up for you 💕🫶🏻

I remember the day I realized my heart was healing
The first time someone said something off putting and without hesitation I said to myself “that has nothing to do with me”
Because it didn’t. It never had.
But because I didn’t know any better I internalized so much
Made it my responsibility to avoid the tripwires and land mines
To be the cause of peace and joy or to not exist at all
But that burden was never mine to bear
Because it was never about me.

This is what my gym looks like today.
Loud “kids”
Minimal equipment
Cluttered dresser
Probably more than one break to prevent the puppy from chewing something
Bear sweetly standing where I need to walk
But movement is movement.
Showing up for myself builds confidence
We DONT all have the same 24 hours. But we can usually make a plan with what we do have.
You got this. I believe in you 💪🏻

Gentle reminder that recovery is a marathon, not a sprint.
5 months ago I had a pelvic organ removed. They told me recovery would be 6-12 weeks. And that was accurate in terms of my normal ADLs.
Physical challenge has been another story. I’m still restricted on weight, and my endurance is non existent. Not to mention I’m still sporadically having debilitating pain (it’s common- working through it with pelvic floor PT).
I could choose to be frustrated with this run time but I’m not. I’m grateful that I can run at all. I’m grateful that I was pain free. I’m grateful that I didn’t have to turn around because I was bleeding too heavily to continue.
Progress is not linear. Relearning how to function after a major surgery is hard. Your body is amazing and you’re doing better than you think 💕

✨Recovery win 🥇
Packing dessert in my lunch.
I can remember from the age of 5 or 6 my mom would pass on dessert always in an effort to maintain a slim figure. It left me with the impression that women simply do not eat dessert. And if they do, it’s a shameful indulgence.
10 years into recovery I have long ago let go of that mentality. But still somehow typically eat desserts at night or during the day for special occasions.
But today I intentionally packed a portion for myself in my lunch. We ate it last night, it was 🔥🔥. I knew I’d enjoy it, so I packed it 😋
The world is on fire right now. Finding small pockets of joy where you can is how most of us are getting by. Eat the dessert. I assure you it’s worth it 💜🖤
