This is what showing up looks like. 💜

A huge thank you to Elite Home Care, Day Centers & Transportation in Conway for participating in our 9/11 Day of Service project in such a big way!

Their group came together to recognize and thank local first responders, and their participation helped push us past our goal of 125 participants. We are now at 133 participants and counting!

We are so grateful to everyone at Elite who took the time to be part of this project. Seeing people come together, create meaningful messages of appreciation, and connect with the first responders who serve their communities is exactly what this project is about.

We did it! 133 people have now participated in our 9/11 Day of Service project across South Carolina.

Our original goal was 125 participants, and y’all helped us surpass it.

Families, students, day programs, community groups, and individuals have been creating thank-you cards, posters, videos, and other messages of appreciation for first responders in their communities. Every submission has helped make this project something really meaningful.

And we’re not done yet.

This is what our 9/11 Day of Service project is all about. ❤️

A huge thank you to the participants and staff at Fairfield County Disabilities and Special Needs Board day program for joining our statewide effort to thank South Carolina’s first responders!

They created messages of appreciation for law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs, and 911 dispatchers, and we love seeing people come together to recognize those who serve their communities.

Now we need your help to keep it going!

We’re getting closer to our participation goal, but we still need more schools, classrooms, day programs, families, residential programs, community groups, coworkers, and individuals from across South Carolina to join us.

And it does not have to be complicated.

You can:

*Make a thank-you card, drawing, sign, or poster
*Write a note or letter
*Record a short thank-you video
*Create something together as a class, family, program, or group
*Use AAC, pictures, gestures, or another way to communicate your appreciation

Every person who participates counts. Every message matters.

This project has a special focus on youth service and leadership, but people of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate.

Disability Advocacy Day 2027 planning is officially underway!

The Arc of South Carolina is proud to be part of the South Carolina Partnership of Disability Organizations (SCPDO), working alongside disability organizations and advocates across the state to prepare for another strong day of advocacy at the State House.

We’ve also started updating the SCPDO website with information for DAD 2027, advocacy resources, ways to get involved, and more.

Transition Planning: From School to Adult Services

Transition planning helps students with disabilities move smoothly from school life to adult life through a collaborative effort involving schools, families, and community agencies. South Carolina public schools require this process to begin at age 13, but it’s never too early to start planning for a successful future!

Come hang out, play board games, try some pinball, grab a snack, and meet other people in a relaxed setting.
