Do cough medicines actually work? The research is more mixed than you might expect.

1️⃣ 29 clinical trials. Nearly 5,000 people. Mixed results for over-the-counter cough medicines.

2️⃣ Know the ingredient’s job: dextromethorphan suppresses coughing; guaifenesin helps loosen mucus. Neither is the answer to every cough.

3️⃣ Don’t overlook honey. It may help soothe a cough in adults and children age 1 and older. Never give honey to a baby under 1.

Late for shingles dose two? CDC says to get the second dose as soon as possible. You do not restart the series.
1️⃣ Routine recommendation: 2 doses at age 50+
2️⃣ Also 2 doses at 19+ when immunocompromised
3️⃣ Usual spacing: 2-6 months
4️⃣ Past six months: get dose two; do not restart
Previous shingles or Zostavax does not remove the two-dose recommendation.

Five interactions I see constantly. Almost nobody was warned about any of them.

1️⃣ GRAPEFRUIT. Not folklore. It blocks a gut enzyme that breaks down certain medications, so more drug reaches your bloodstream than intended. Matters most with some cholesterol and blood pressure drugs. Spacing it by a few hours does not fix it.

2️⃣ IBUPROFEN + BLOOD PRESSURE MEDS. A week of daily NSAIDs can push your pressure back up and blunt the medication you're paying for.

3️⃣ THYROID MEDICATION. Calcium, iron, antacids, and coffee all reduce absorption. Empty stomach, real separation from supplements.

4️⃣ ANTIBIOTICS + MINERALS. Tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones bind calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc. Take them together and you absorb dramatically less antibiotic, then finish the course thinking you treated it.

5️⃣ ALCOHOL + ACETAMINOPHEN. The one I actually worry about. Acetaminophen hides in cold and pain products, so it stacks without you noticing.

🦠 mRNA technology has officially made its way into flu vaccines

2️⃣ In adults 65+, the mRNA vaccine produced a stronger immune response.

Pneumonia has been making headlines recently, but many people don't realize just how serious it can be.

The recent passing of two-time NASCAR champion Kyle Busch from severe pneumonia (at just 41 years old) is a heartbreaking reminder that this disease can affect anyone, not just older adults.
