Across Trinity Health we're advancing care through innovative treatments, compassionate support and expert teams.

When Jim Marquardt, a Plymouth street commissioner, needed specialty care for liver disease, the team at Saint Joseph Health System helped support him throughout his journey.

In preparation for a liver transplant, Jim spent nine months at Saint Joseph receiving weekly paracentesis treatments at our paracentesis/thoracentesis clinic. Even during this difficult journey, the care he received at Saint Joseph Health System went beyond treatment. From physicians and nurses to clinic staff, every interaction reminded him he wasn't facing his journey alone.

Jim's wife, Darlene, also felt the impact of the care he received at Saint Joseph, "Once he got the transplant, his care team called and checked to see how he was doing. They were just so caring, and it was nice to hear a voice of somebody that knew everything he has gone through."

After receiving a liver transplant in July, Jim returned to thank his surgeon Sushruta Nagarkatti, MD, William Hanley, NP, his nurse Sean Lake, RN, and their teams who helped guide him through one of the most challenging times of his life.

Jim and his wife Darlene are extremely grateful for the community that helped support them. Now they are getting back to doing the things they love most and advocating for organ donation.
