📷 Missionaries encouraging the next generation of missionaries

Many of you left words of wisdom through one of our interactive exhibits at 2025. These are just a few of 100’s of cards!!

If you could go back and chat with your younger self about your mission journey, what advice would you leave with them?

Almost 2 years to the day that we sat down with Clara to record this episode, she met her husband at our Global Missions Health Conference. They had their first date in our atrium cafe 🙌

But this discussion and our conference are not just about making amazing connections. 🫶 Clara shared with us her journey of discerning God’s direction and learning obedience.

Her story is helpful to anyone just stepping into missions. That kind of mentorship is exactly why our community exists.

Ever feel isolated?

Maybe you're in the middle of med school and it's stressful. Maybe you're on the mission field in a remote place. Maybe you're serving in a big city but far too many people around you are going through the motions or fighting their way to "the top" vocationally, but that's not where your heart is.

In our community, we love using technology to build real connection. Whether that's through our free virtual events, our database of real mission roles that need to be filled throughout the world, or even our online member lounge that we're always improving so you can join with others and be reminded that you're never alone. God's kingdom is a partnership... with Him and one another.

For those of us in healthcare, it's easy to lead with our clinical credentials. But in healthcare missions, humble leadership must play a role. We must consider the spiritual realities of illness and healing, not just our technical training.

We'll talk about navigating this intentional approach at our virtual event on May 16th at 7 pm ET. Live Q&A with our speaker Dr. Prenger at the end!

Dr. Kris Prenger brings nearly 30 years of experience in cross-cultural ministry and healthcare in Bangladesh. Kris will challenge the traditional "position of power" held by medical professionals and offer a framework for building trust that starts with humility.

She graduated from The Ohio State University, completed a Family Medicine residency in Wilmington, DE, then worked from 1991-1996 on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Shiprock, NM. After Bible training, she began work in rural South Asia. She worked primarily in community health and development, with limited clinical work in Ob-Gyn (20+ years), then Med-Peds. After relocating to the US, she now serves as Midwest Area Coordinator for InterserveUSA. She received an MPH from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and completed an MA in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary.

Did you mark your calendar?

Next week, we will explore why quality care and expert care must also incorporate the worldview of those we serve, and how understanding the "excluded middle"—the spiritual realities of illness and healing—is essential for the Gospel to truly sound like Good News.

We'll see you online on May 16th at 7 pm ET. Click here to RSVP: https://www.medicalmissions.com/events/expertise-is-not-enough-the-power-of-relational-trust-in-cross-cultural-missions
