Today marks exactly one month and one day since Brody was admitted to the hospital.

This past month has been one of the hardest seasons of our lives. We’ve experienced so many ups and downs—watching Brody endure severe pain, facing terrifying moments in the ICU, and even moments where we truly feared for his life.

But through it all, we have continued to praise God.

Every time a new problem arose, God faithfully carried Brody through it. As quickly as a complication came, we watched Him bring healing. Time and time again, we’ve seen His protection over our sweet boy. In Jesus’ name, we give Him all the glory.

The last few days have brought such a huge change. Brody has shown incredible improvement mentally, emotionally, and physically. Seeing him smile more, have more energy, and begin to feel like himself again has been the greatest gift.

Right now we’re just waiting for him to finish his IV medication. On Monday he’ll have another scan to check the infection in his chest. If the scan shows continued improvement, he gets to come HOME on Tuesday!

And the timing couldn’t be more special… because our sweet boy turns 11 on Wednesday. ❤️

We’re praying with everything we have that he’ll get to wake up in his own bed and celebrate his birthday surrounded by the people who love him most.

Thank you all for continuing to pray, encourage us, and carry us through this journey. We are so grateful for every prayer, every message, and every person standing beside our family. Please keep praying for a great scan on Monday and that this next chapter is one of healing, strength, and home.

Keepin it real ❤️‍🩹

As I was looking through old photos of the boys today, my heart broke in a way I wasn’t expecting.

Somewhere along the way, I became so consumed by doctor’s appointments, hospital stays, medications, scans, blood counts, and simply trying to get Brody through cancer that I have forgotten all the pieces of our normal life we’ve lost along the way.

Westin is just a baby. Brody is just a kid. And lately it feels like we haven’t really been living life together as a family. We’re all exhausted—physically, emotionally, mentally. It’s hard to make plans. It’s hard for all four of us to even be in the same place at the same time some days. And if we’re being honest, we’re all struggling with that.

I miss the laughter that filled our home. The spontaneous adventures. Weekend trips. Riding bikes. Baseball. Family outings. The simple things we used to do without a second thought.

Life looks very different now.

And sometimes I feel guilty for grieving those things. Because Brody is here. He’s fighting. He’s making progress. And I know there are families who would give anything to be where we are today.

But two things can be true at the same time.

I can be incredibly grateful that my son is here and moving in the right direction, while also mourning the life cancer has taken from all of us.

More than anything, I just want Brody to get better. I want him to be able to be a normal kid again. I want Westin to experience the childhood we dreamed of for him. I want our family to laugh more than we cry. I want our marriage to have space to breathe again. I want all of us to experience some sense of normal outside of hospitals, medications, and uncertainty.

Cancer doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed. It touches every corner of a family’s life. It changes routines, relationships, plans, priorities, and memories. It asks siblings to sacrifice, parents to carry impossible weight, and families to learn a version of life they never wanted to know.

Tonight my heart is just heavy.

Not because I’ve lost hope, but because I miss us.

And I can’t wait for the day when cancer is no longer the center of our story. ❤️

An update on Brody 💛

We have some good news to share. The infection in Brody’s blood is gone! We are incredibly thankful for that answer to prayer. Right now, we’re still fighting the fungal infection in his lungs and the pneumonia, but we’re moving in the right direction.

He’s also being transferred out of the ICU today, which is another big step forward.

His counts are finally starting to creep up a little. The doctors explained that as his immune system begins to recover, his body will start fighting harder against the infections. Unfortunately, that means he may actually feel worse before he feels better. Today has been a rough morning with a lot of coughing, vomiting, and just feeling plain miserable.

It’s hard to watch him feel so sick, especially when we know he’s technically improving, but we are holding onto the fact that these are signs his body is beginning to do the work it needs to do.

We still have a road ahead of us, but we thank God for every bit of progress. Thank you all for the prayers, messages, and support. Please keep them coming as Brody continues this fight. 💛

Brody Update

On just the last couple of hours Brody has developed some complications that have led to him being transferred to the ICU for closer monitoring.

He is currently fighting a fungal infection in his bloodstream, and his pneumonia has worsened. His oxygen levels and blood pressure both began to drop, and the doctors are concerned that he is bordering on sepsis. Because of this, they felt it was safest for him to be in the ICU where he can be monitored very closely and receive immediate care if needed.

This is obviously not the update we were hoping to share, but we are thankful the medical team caught these changes quickly and is staying ahead of them. Brody is receiving treatment, and the doctors are watching him around the clock.

We know so many of you love our boy and pray for him daily. Right now, we would greatly appreciate continued prayers for healing, for his body to fight these infections, for his ANC counts to begin recovering, and for wisdom for his doctors as they navigate the next steps.

Thank you all for the love, support, and prayers you’ve continued to surround our family with. We read every message, even when we can’t always respond.

Brody update 💛

Brody is now on a blood thinner to help treat the blood clots, which the doctors believe have been a major contributor to the pain he has been experiencing. Thankfully, his pain is finally being managed much better, and seeing him more comfortable has been a huge relief.

A CT scan also revealed that Brody has pneumonia and a fungal infection in his blood. He is receiving antibiotics and medications to fight the infections. Tomorrow, he will have another CT scan so the doctors can take a closer look at his organs and make sure there are no additional areas of infection.

His ANC count remains at 0, which means he still has essentially no immune system to help his body fight these infections on its own. His fevers continue to come and go as his body works hard to battle the infections, but what he really needs now is for his counts to recover and his immunity to start coming back.

One bright spot in all of this is that for the next few days, we’re all able to be here together. Normally, Dad and I take turns staying the night with Brody, switching off so one of us can be home with baby brother. But for now, we’re all together at the hospital, and we are all so happy about it. Seeing them together has been good for all of our hearts.

As always, we would appreciate continued prayers for healing, protection from further infection, rising counts, and strength for our sweet boy. One day at a time, one step at a time. 💛

Brody Update 💚

Thank you all so much for the prayers, check-ins, and support. We wanted to share a little update on Brody.

The good news is the object they saw in his esophagus is now gone, so that is no longer a concern. Also, thank God, he tested negative for infection.

As for the blood clots, the doctors are still monitoring everything closely. Brody has now started blood thinner injections to help treat the clots they found.

This morning, his doctor explained that they may have found the blood clot incidentally, meaning it may not actually be what’s causing the severe groin and leg pain he’s been having. Since Brody also started experiencing shoulder and joint pain, they are now wondering if the groin pain could be radiating from his hip or related to something else going on.

To get more answers, they have ordered an MRI for tomorrow to take a closer look.

We are still taking things moment by moment and hoping for more clarity soon. Please continue praying for answers, pain relief, and healing for Brody. We are so thankful for every prayer and all the love being poured into our family right now. 💚

One day at a time.

Brody Update ❤️

Last night around 8:30 PM, Brody suddenly developed severe leg pain that shot up into his back. He was in so much pain he was screaming for help. The nurse pressed an emergency button in his room, and within seconds the room filled with nurses and doctors. It was incredibly overwhelming and scary for both of us, but also reassuring to see everyone respond so quickly.

They immediately did CT scans, ultrasounds, and X-rays to figure out what was going on.

They found that his colon and small intestine are inflamed from chemo, so for now he is not allowed to eat or drink to let his body rest.

More importantly, they found multiple blood clots running from behind his knee up into his groin area. Right now, they are still trying to determine how far the clot extends, so he will be doing another scan. The doctor wants to start a blood thinner, but because Brody’s platelet counts are low, he will need platelets first before they can safely begin treatment.

They also found a small object the size of a pill stuck in his esophagus that they need to identify and decide if it is an immediate concern before starting blood thinners.

We are taking this one step at a time and praying for answers, relief from pain, and the best path forward for our boy. Please continue to keep Brody in your prayers — for healing, comfort, strength, and wisdom for his medical team. 💚

This is a lot to process, but we are thankful he is being closely monitored and cared for.

Prayer request for Brody 🙏
Hes was rushed to the hospital with a fever of 101.3 On Wednesday evening ..Because his immune system is essentially nonexistent right now , this is considered very serious.
His doctor told us to go immediately to the hospital in Oakdale to begin antibiotics ASAP rather than waiting to get to Madera. He received antibiotics at oak valley and then was transferred by ambulance to Madera for platelets and was admitted.

He’s still here at VC in Madera. They are checking for infection. He had an xray on his abdomen, and we’re awaiting an ultrasound of his appendix. His intestines are tender to the touch so they want to check everything right now for infection. His fever has not came back 🙏 we need his ANC counts (immunity levels) to come back up so he can start feeling better and go home ! We’re praying there’s no infection but he’s in antibiotics as a precaution.
Please pray hard for our boy tonight — for healing, protection, and that his body responds quickly to treatment.

A little piece of Brody’s journey that many don’t see… 💚🩸🎗️

Brody has O-negative blood, which is a more rare blood type and one that is often in high demand. Throughout treatment, there are days when his body simply can’t keep up, and he relies on blood transfusions and platelet donations to help him keep fighting.

Today was one of those days.

Because of current shortages, Brody needed platelets that were not his blood type, which meant extra medications had to be given alongside them to help his body safely tolerate the transfusion. It’s one of those reminders of just how critical blood and platelet donations truly are — not just for Brody, but for so many children and adults fighting battles they never asked for.

Cancer treatment, accidents, surgeries, premature babies, chronic illnesses — donated blood saves lives every single day.

So today, we’re asking for something simple:

In honor of Brody, please consider donating blood or platelets if you’re able. 💚

You do not have to be O-negative to make a difference. Every blood type is needed, and every donation helps replenish blood banks for kids like Brody and countless others depending on these life-saving transfusions.

If donating isn’t possible, sharing this message matters too. Awareness matters.

If you’re local and would like to donate, Valley Children’s receives blood products through the Central California Blood Center. You can find donation locations and schedule an appointment here:

https://www.donateblood.org/

If you donate in honor of Brody, please post a photo in the comments or tag us — we would love to see it. Let’s flood this page with donors helping our boy and so many others. 💚

Brody is fighting hard every single day to get back to the things he loves most — baseball , dirt bikes, school, and simply being a kid again. And donors are a part of helping make that possible.

Donate or bring awareness 🩸
For Brody. For all the fighters. 💚
