Both of our Public Health Vending Machines are restocked!

We work to restock the machines multiple times a month so that free health and wellness supplies are available to our communities when they’re needed.

We know the cost of basic necessities continues to be high, and we’re so grateful that we’re able to provide some additional support to our communities through these vending machines.

Both machines are available 24/7 and are climate controlled — which means there’s even cold bottled water available!

And there’s more to come! Our Manitowoc machine will be evolving soon to look more like our Two Rivers machine, with additional items and resources available to our community.

We’re grateful to be able to offer these resources and hope they continue to be a helpful source of support for our neighbors. Please share this information with anyone who may benefit. 💙

We're proud to have presented a check this week for $5,715 to Grow It Forward - Community Food Center to support their Feed Our Future program!

Feed Our Future program provides food to children who may not have reliable access to food, helping ensure they have nutritious options to get them through the weekends during the school year. This funding will help Grow It Forward purchase needed food items, restock supplies, and continue providing this important resource to local students.

In 2025, Healthiest Manitowoc County Substance Use Prevention Coalition (HMCSUP) participated in a Fostering Healthy Youth Project made possible through their free membership with Alliance for Wisconsin Youth (AWY), which focused on the intersection of youth mental health and substance use prevention. Through the project, HMCSUP developed a local logic model examining the relationship between youth mental health, food insecurity, and risky behaviors such as substance use.

As an AWY member coalition, HMCSUP has access to valuable networking opportunities, training, technical assistance, mentoring, resources, and funding opportunities that help strengthen our local prevention efforts. NEWAHEC is one of 5 Regional Prevention Centers contracted to support Substance Use Prevention Coalitions across Northeastern and Southern Wisconsin through AWY membership.

Research and local data show that these issues are interconnected. Food insecurity can contribute to stress and challenges with mental health and overall well-being, while unmet basic needs can increase a young person’s vulnerability to risky behaviors. Understanding these connections reinforced the importance of addressing food insecurity as part of a broader approach to youth health and prevention.

“After the work we did in 2025 looking at the relationship between youth mental health, food insecurity, and substance use, we knew that continuing this partnership was vital,” said Emily Longmeyer-Wolf, Social Worker at NEWAHEC. “Food insecurity is more prevalent and pressing than ever, and we know families in our community are feeling the impact. Supporting Grow It Forward’s Feed Our Future program allows us to build on the work that began last year and provide meaningful support to local children and families.”

NEWAHEC serves as the fiscal agent for Healthiest Manitowoc County, supporting the financial administration of initiatives that advance HMC’s mission to improve the health and well-being of Manitowoc County residents.

🎉 It's official! Our second Public Health Vending Machine is now live in Two Rivers!

Located outside the City of Two Rivers Fire Department (2122 Monroe Street), this free, climate-controlled vending machine provides 24/7 access to health, wellness, and prevention resources—because everyone deserves access to essential supplies whenever they need them.

You'll find items like:
Narcan Nasal Spray (Naloxone)
First Aid and over-the-counter medication kits
Hygiene Kits
Menstrual Kits
STI Prevention Kits
Tick Removal/Identification Kits
Lice Treatment Kits
Medication Lock Bags
Fi***rm Safety Locks

The items inside our Public Health Vending Machine may vary slightly throughout the year as we adjust to seasonal needs and emerging community priorities. We are always looking for community input on what would be most helpful to include. Your feedback helps ensure this resource continues to meet real needs and remains responsive to the people it serves.

Have ideas or suggestions? We’d love to hear them—because this project is built with the community, for the community. 💙

Every item is completely free and available to help support the health and well-being of our community.

This project wouldn't be possible without the incredible collaboration of our community partners, healthcare organizations, first responders, local nonprofits, and grant funders who share our commitment to improving access to essential health resources.

🎉 As we wrap up our WI WINS To***co Compliance Checks contract and begin a new one, we want to take a moment to thank the local law enforcement agencies across our four counties that we're contracted for (Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Kewaunee, & Door) for their continued partnership and support. Your commitment to these compliance checks plays a vital role in preventing youth access to to***co products and helping create healthier communities.

We also want to thank our local retailers for their dedication to following the law, as well as our team and volunteers who helped make this work possible. We look forward to continuing this important partnership in the year ahead as we work together to keep to***co out of the hands of youth and build healthier futures for our communities. 💙
