New research is giving women another reason to pay attention to the conversation around hormones and long-term health.

A large UK Biobank study followed 183,450 postmenopausal women for an average of more than 13 years and found that HRT use for at least one year was associated with:

• 10% lower risk of overall dementia
• 16% lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease
• 26% lower risk among women with surgical menopause

The associations were even stronger in certain groups, including women who started HRT between ages 46–56, had lower lifetime estrogen exposure, carried the APOE4 variant, or experienced surgical menopause.

The important part: this was an observational study, which means it shows an association, not proof that HRT prevents dementia.

What it does reinforce is something we believe strongly at True Test: hormone care should never be one-size-fits-all. Timing, symptoms, medical history, labs, risk factors, and your individual goals all matter.
