You twist in your chair. CRACK. Instant relief.

Then 20 minutes later, you do it again. And again. And again.

Here's why: when you crack your own back, two things happen. Your brain releases endorphins (feel-good chemicals), and tiny gas pockets in your joints pop. Both feel amazing. Neither fixes anything.

The bigger problem? Your spine has stuck segments and hypermobile segments. When you twist to crack your own back, you almost always move the segments that are *already too loose* โ€” because they're the ones that crack easily. The actual stuck joint never gets touched.

That's why your back feels great for 20 minutes โ€” then it's right back.

A real spinal adjustment targets the joint that's actually stuck. That's why the relief lasts.

Your shoes should match your workout โ€” not just your outfit. ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Different types of training demand different support, stability, cushioning, and responsiveness. Rotating your shoes can improve performance, reduce injury risk, and even extend the life of your footwear.
๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ Running Shoes
Built for forward movement, shock absorption, and mileage. Great for easy runs, long runs, and everyday cardio.
โšก๏ธ Carbon Fiber Shoes
Lightweight, propulsive, and designed for speed. Best for races, tempo runs, and performance days โ€” not your everyday gym shoe.
๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ Lifting Shoes
Stable, firm soles help improve force production and balance during squats, deadlifts, and Olympic lifts.
๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Cross-Training Shoes
Your all-around gym option for HIIT, classes, agility work, and mixed movement days.
Why shoe rotation matters ๐Ÿ‘‡
โœ”๏ธ Changes stress patterns on the body
โœ”๏ธ Helps prevent overuse injuries
โœ”๏ธ Allows cushioning to recover between sessions
โœ”๏ธ Improves workout-specific performance
โœ”๏ธ Makes shoes last longer
The right shoe for the right session = better movement, better training, better results.

Morning back stiffness isn't one thing. The pattern of when it improves โ€” or doesn't โ€” tells us a lot about what's actually going on.

PATTERN ONE: stiff when you wake up, noticeably better within 30 minutes of moving around.

This usually points to a mechanical issue. Discs, joints, and muscles lose hydration overnight and rehydrate as you start moving. The stiffness is your body's recovery system catching up. This pattern tends to respond well to chiropractic care, spinal decompression, and targeted movement.

PATTERN TWO: stiff for an hour or more, and movement doesn't help. Sometimes it wakes you up in the second half of the night.

This can point to inflammatory conditions โ€” things like ankylosing spondylitis or autoimmune arthritis. These require different testing and a different treatment approach entirely. They're commonly missed for years because patients (and clinicians) treat them like ordinary back pain.

Most people have been told their stiffness is "just back pain." It isn't. The pattern matters. The treatment depends on it.

If you've been working around morning stiffness for a long time, it's worth understanding which pattern you're actually dealing with.

"Strong abs" and "strong core" aren't the same thing. And the difference matters more than you'd think.

Most people training their core are training the wrong muscles. Crunches, sit-ups, Russian twists โ€” these work the surface-level abs you can see in the mirror. Those aren't the muscles that protect your spine.

Your real core sits underneath:

โœ“ Transverse abdominis โ€” your body's natural weight belt that wraps around your midsection
โœ“ Multifidus โ€” tiny muscles that lock each vertebra in place
โœ“ Pelvic floor โ€” the foundation that ties it all together
โœ“ Diaphragm โ€” yes, your breathing muscle is part of your core

These four work as a team to stabilize your spine every time you bend, twist, lift, or even sneeze. None of them get trained by sit-ups.

This is why so many people "have a strong core" and still throw their back out tying their shoes. They've been training the wrong layer โ€” and in some cases, crunches and sit-ups can actually make disc issues worse.

A real core program looks different. It's slower, more controlled, and targets the deep stabilizers your spine actually relies on.

Tiny needles might work better than your allergy pill.

Sounds like a stretch โ€” until you look at the research.

A landmark study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that acupuncture significantly reduced seasonal allergy symptoms. Patients in the study also needed less antihistamine medication to manage their flare-ups. And the results held for weeks after treatment ended.

Here's why it works:

Allergies aren't really about pollen. They're your immune system going haywire over harmless particles. Acupuncture has been shown to lower the inflammatory chemicals โ€” histamine, IgE โ€” that drive your symptoms in the first place.

What patients commonly notice:
โœ“ Less sneezing and congestion
โœ“ Reduced itchy, watery eyes
โœ“ Lower reliance on daily antihistamines
โœ“ Fewer sinus headaches

If you're tired of cycling through allergy meds every spring and fall โ€” or if the side effects (drowsiness, dry mouth, rebound congestion) are wearing on you โ€” acupuncture is worth a real look.

It's not woo. It's well-studied. And it might be the thing that finally lets you enjoy a walk outside.

One of the biggest lessons Dr. Sam Marri has learned through fitness, competition, and working with athletes every day:

Donโ€™t judge people.

You never know where someone is starting from, what theyโ€™ve been through, or how hard theyโ€™re working behind the scenes. The person training beside you may be fighting battles you canโ€™t see โ€” and still showing up anyway.

Whether itโ€™s HYROX, running, lifting, or simply trying to become healthier, everyoneโ€™s journey looks different. Respect the process, support people around you, and focus on becoming better than you were yesterday. ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ”ฅ

The best advice Dr. Sam Marri gives to anyone doing HYROX for the first time?

Have fun. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Itโ€™s easy to get caught up in times, competition, and pressure โ€” but the experience, the atmosphere, and challenging yourself are what make HYROX special. Whether youโ€™re an elite athlete or trying something completely new, showing up and pushing yourself is already a win.

Train hard, stay consistent, and enjoy the process. The rest will follow. ๐Ÿ’ช
