Does your baby always seem to favor one side?

Maybe they consistently turn their head in the same direction, roll only one way, reach more with one hand, or seem to crawl a little unevenly. While some asymmetry can be normal as babies learn new skills, patterns that persist may be worth a closer look.

Symmetrical movement helps build the foundation for healthy development. It allows babies to develop balanced strength and coordination as they learn to roll, sit, crawl, stand, and eventually walk.

Pediatric physical therapy can help identify what may be contributing to an asymmetry and use gentle, play-based activities to encourage comfortable movement on both sides of the body. Parents also learn simple strategies they can incorporate into tummy time, play, and everyday routines at home.

If you’ve noticed that your baby consistently favors one side, you don’t have to wait and see if they simply grow out of it. An evaluation can provide answers, reassurance, and guidance.

Read our latest article from Kathryn Cabral, PT, DPT, Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy, to learn more about asymmetrical development, what to watch for, and how pediatric PT can help.

Asymmetrical development occurs when a baby consistently favors one side of their body during movement or play. While brief asymmetry can be part of normal development, persistent patterns may affect motor skills, comfort, and head shape. Common signs include: Head turning preference Une

Just sore from practice…or something more?

A little muscle soreness can be a normal part of getting back into practices and games. But pain that keeps returning, changes the way your athlete runs or moves, causes them to sit out, or gets worse instead of better deserves a closer look.

Not sure whether your athlete needs physical therapy? Give Health In Balance a call. We can help you determine the right next step.

🚨‼️Sports injuries don’t always mean the end of the season. But ignoring them can.

Ankle sprains. Knee pain. Muscle strains. Wrist injuries. Overuse pain. These are all common in student athletes, especially as practices and competition ramp up.

Pay attention if your athlete has:

• Pain that keeps coming back
• Swelling or tenderness
• Limping or changes in the way they move
• Pain during running, jumping, throwing, or cutting
• Difficulty returning to their usual performance
• An injury that just doesn’t seem to be getting better

Sometimes rest is enough. Sometimes there’s an underlying issue that needs to be addressed.

Physical therapy can help determine **why it hurts**, restore strength and movement, and help your athlete safely get back to the sport they love.

Don’t let a small problem become a season-long injury. We can help. Call 262-236-0176

🏃‍♀️⚽🏈🏐 Start the Season Strong

You don’t have to wait for an injury to see a physical therapist.

A preseason physical therapy evaluation gives student athletes a closer look at how their bodies are moving before practices, games, and training intensity ramp up.

Our physical therapists evaluate strength, mobility, balance, movement mechanics, and side-to-side differences to identify areas that may increase an athlete’s risk for injury.

Maybe an old ankle sprain never fully regained its strength. Maybe one hip is tighter than the other. Maybe a growth spurt has changed the way an athlete runs, jumps, or lands.

Finding those things before pain starts gives us the opportunity to address them before they interfere with the season.

A preseason PT evaluation can help your athlete build strength where they need it, improve movement mechanics, address lingering issues from past injuries, and prepare their body for the demands of their sport.

Don’t wait until an injury puts them on the sidelines.

Schedule a preseason physical therapy evaluation at Health In Balance and help your athlete start the season ready to move, compete, and stay in the game. Call 262-236-0176 to schedule.

Does something about the way your child moves have you wondering if everything is on track?

Maybe they’re having trouble keeping up with other kids, seem a little unsteady, walk on their toes, struggle with stairs, avoid certain playground activities, or just move differently than you expected.

That’s exactly where pediatric physical therapy can help.

At Health In Balance, pediatric PT is designed to help children build strength, balance, coordination, mobility, and confidence through activities that feel more like play than therapy.

Pediatric physical therapy may help children with:

• Delayed motor milestones
• Balance and coordination difficulties
• Toe walking
• Muscle weakness
• Frequent falls or clumsiness
• Sports or orthopedic injuries
• Neurological or developmental conditions
• Difficulty with running, jumping, stairs, or playground activities

If you have questions about your child’s movement or development, you don’t have to wait and wonder. Give Health In Balance a call and let’s talk about whether pediatric physical therapy could help.
