Reel Talk Tuesday: I think many of us have spent so much time surviving that we don’t even realize how disconnected we’ve become from ourselves emotionally.

Pushing through exhaustion.
Suppressing emotions.
Constantly carrying stress.
Staying in “go mode.”

And because it’s so normalized, many people never stop to ask:
“Is this actually healthy?”

Therapy and my own healing journey forced me to slow down long enough to start paying attention to myself differently.
Not just physically.
Emotionally too.

This week, I want to encourage you to intentionally check in with yourself.
Not your responsibilities.
Not your productivity.
You.

How are you actually doing mentally and emotionally?
If you are caring for a loved one with dementia, Legacy offers free wellness support, education, and community-centered resources for caregivers. 🤎

Our last Memory Social was absolutely beautiful! A special thank you to all the caregivers and their loved ones that came out to the Petals & Peace flower arranging class. A special reminder that Legacy has monthly programming that centers caregivers and their loved ones living with dementia to foster community and connection. 💚

Thursday, caregivers of loved ones living with dementia are invited to participate in our Memory Social at Washington Park Library. While your loved one participates in meaningful memory care activities, caregivers are invited to take a break and have a meaningful pause. Join us every second Thursday of the month. 💚

Hello everyone.

One year ago, Legacy Home and Respite Care Foundation received funding through the Center for Dementia Respite Innovation (CDRI) that allowed us to expand opportunities for caregivers and individuals living with dementia to connect, engage, and thrive.

Over the past year, that investment has become so much more than a program.
Together, we’ve built community.
We’ve provided over 1,000 hours of respite, supported caregivers through wellness initiatives, hosted Memory Socials, created meaningful opportunities for connection, and helped families realize they are not alone on this journey.

We’ve watched caregivers take a much-needed break, form new friendships, and reconnect with themselves. We’ve witnessed moments of joy, laughter, purpose, and engagement for individuals living with dementia. Most importantly, we’ve seen what is possible when a community comes together to support one another.

As this chapter comes to a close, we want to take a moment to celebrate everything we’ve accomplished together and share what’s next for Legacy.

We invite you to join us for:
Memory Social: An Evening of Celebration, Connection & Joy
Saturday, June 27, 2026
4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Tswv Chao Vang Center
11010 W. Hampton Ave.

Enjoy an evening of dinner, music, dancing, karaoke, games, fellowship, and meaningful connection with others who understand the dementia journey.
Whether you’re a caregiver, a person living with dementia, a family member, friend, volunteer, community partner, supporter, or simply someone who believes in this work, we would love to celebrate with you.

This evening will be an opportunity to:
- Celebrate the impact we’ve created together over the past year
-Recognize the caregivers, families, volunteers, and partners who made it possible
-Reflect on the memories, connections, and moments that have shaped our community
- Share exciting updates about the future of Legacy, the Caregiver Sanctuary, and what’s ahead

A respite corner will be available during the event, and individuals living with dementia are warmly welcomed and encouraged to join in the celebration.
Attire: Dressy Casual to Semi-Formal

While the grant that helped launch this work may be ending, our commitment to caregivers and families affected by dementia is not.
In many ways, we’re just getting started.
We hope you’ll join us.

I LOVE bringing awareness about dementia into the community.

One thing I learn every single time I’m out at an event is just how many people still don’t know what dementia is. I meet people who think they may be seeing signs in themselves or a loved one and are scared to talk about it. I meet caregivers who are so grateful that someone is finally talking about them because caregivers often go unseen.

I even got the chance to teach some kids about dementia.

Grateful to have been a part of Community Unity Weekend and thankful for everyone who stopped by, shared their stories, asked questions, and learned with us.

Just one week away and I couldn’t be more excited! 💙

As someone who once walked in the shoes of caring for my mom with younger-onset dementia at a young age, it means so much to be able to show up in this space for children and families who are living that reality right now.

If you would have told 16-year-old me that one day I’d be helping create community and support for families like mine, I probably wouldn’t have believed you.

There is something so powerful about being surrounded by people who just get it, and I can’t wait to be part of it.

If you haven’t registered yet, head over to and do so ASAP! We can’t wait to see you there! 💙

Caregivers often don’t stop to take their own personal inventory. What type of support do you need? What’s lacking? What can be improved to ensure you are not just surviving, but being present and healthy through you’ll caregiving journey?

Take a few minutes to check in with yourself. ♥️
