Wrigley Field is over a century old, and it just did something no MLB ballpark has done before: it’s been named baseball’s first Certified Autism Center.

To earn it, at least 80 percent of guest-facing staff completed training in autism and sensory needs, so they know how to support autistic and sensory-sensitive fans from the moment they walk in.

It builds on years of quiet work. A sensory room on the main concourse, added in 2024 with KultureCity, offers soft lighting and a calm space to step away. Fans can grab free sensory bags with noise-reducing headphones, and there’s closed captioning and assistive listening throughout the park.

A ballpark is a wall of sound. For a lot of families that’s the magic. For an autistic fan, it can be the reason they never get to go.

Wrigley just made sure they can. Not by turning down the game, but by giving people a place to land when they need one.

Take me out to the ballgame. All of us.

“They’re just posting about autism to get sympathy.”

Comments like that remind me why awareness still matters.

Because there was a time when children like mine were not only misunderstood but also hidden from the world.

Ignored.

Institutionalized.

Restricted.

When I read about that history, it breaks something in me.

Because these were children.

Not problems. Not cases.

Just children.

So no, I don’t speak about autism for sympathy.

I speak about it so that no child ever goes back to being treated as something to be hidden instead of loved.

And if sharing my voice helps even one person understand that, then it matters.
