Dr. David Gnewikow, Audiologist, founded Advanced Hearing Solutions in 2007 with the goal of setting up a state-of-the-art hearing clinic in Mt. We offer hearing care, hearing testing, complete diagnostic testing, and full hearing aid fitting and repair services. We offer free hearing aid trials and no-interest financing for all of our patients.

Are hearing aids waterproof?

Many of today's hearing aids are advertised as water-resistant. The best products have an IP68 rating. The IP stands for Ingress Protection, describing how well a device blocks foreign objects and liquids. First Digit (6): The maximum rating for solid protection, meaning it is totally dust-tight. Second Digit (8): Indicates protection against water submersion past 1 meter (usually defined by the maker).

Even with an IP68 hearing aid, we don't recommend swimming with full submersion or showering. They hold up very well to sweat, moisture, rain, etc. and if you do forget and get in the shower, just wipe them dry. So water-resistant, very, but not 100% waterproof in any and every situation.

Medical Monday - Hearing and Dementia

One of the questions we hear most from patients and their loved ones in our clinic is about the link between hearing loss and dementia.

A number of studies have shown correlations between hearing and cognition.

“Hearing loss is an important risk factor for the development of dementia, particularly Alzheimer's disease (AD). Mid-life hearing loss increases the risk of developing dementia by double any other single factor.”. - Azeem, et al. Hearing loss and its link to cognitive impairment and dementia. We recommend seeing your audiologist for regular hearing evaluations and don’t ignore the early signs of hearing loss, like tinnitus, trouble hearing in background noise and missing out on conversations.

Six years ago today our community was reeling from the overnight tornado that destroyed property and claimed lives. Advanced Hearing Solutions took a direct hit and like many others, we weren’t even sure where to start.

As days passed, we were reminded of why we love this community and are so blessed to call Mt. Juliet home. Neighbors helped neighbors. Strangers showed up with food and work gloves. We prayed together and cried together.

The last six years have been challenging at times but we have been so blessed to partner with other businesses and friends to rebuild bigger and better.

Medical Monday

Did you know that sudden unexplained hearing loss, should be considered an emergency and treated immediately? Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SSHL) can occur, almost always in just one ear, with no warning or obvious cause. Research shows that treatment within the first 72 hours greatly increases the likelihood of recovery.

If you or a family member experience a sudden hearing loss, call your Audiologist or ENT immediately. Be sure to explain that the hearing loss is sudden. We will move you to the front of the line to get tested and treated.
