🚗 Just been in a car accident?
The insurance process can be confusing, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. In Massachusetts, Personal Injury Protection, or PIP, provides no-fault coverage for eligible medical care, regardless of who caused the accident.
Here’s how it generally works:
✅ If you do not have health insurance, or have MassHealth or Medicare, PIP may cover eligible medical expenses up to $8,000.
✅ If you have commercial health insurance, PIP generally covers the first $2,000. Bills above that are submitted to your health insurance, while eligible copays, deductibles, and coinsurance may be submitted back to PIP, up to the applicable $8,000 limit.
By combining PIP and health insurance, patients generally have sufficient coverage for the medically necessary duration of their care.
At PK Health & Wellness, we help coordinate the billing process and submit eligible claims directly to the appropriate insurance provider, so you have less paperwork to worry about.
One more thing to know: adrenaline can mask pain for a day or two after an accident. Feeling “fine” right away does not always mean there is no injury.
Even if you told the claims adjuster that you felt fine immediately after the accident, don’t hesitate to seek an evaluation if symptoms appear later. Insurance adjusters understand that pain and other symptoms can sometimes be delayed.
