This new space represents an important step forward in expanding access to behavioral health services and supporting the overall health and well-being of our community.

🎉 A new chapter for behavioral health care in New Bedford!

Yesterday, New Bedford Community Health proudly celebrated the grand opening of New Bedford Community Health and Wellness, the new home of our Behavioral Health Department.

Together with One SouthCoast we officially cut the ribbon on a space that represents an important investment in the health and well-being of our community.

Once home to the Bamboo Garden restaurant, this familiar New Bedford building has been transformed into a welcoming space dedicated to care, connection, healing, and wellness. 💙

We were honored to celebrate alongside U.S. Representative Bill Keating, Massachusetts State Representatives Tony Cabral, Chris Hendricks, Christopher Markey, and State Rep Steve Ouellette , New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell, New Bedford City Councilors Derek Baptiste and Councilor-at-Large James Roy, community partners, NBCH staff, and friends of the health center.

We are excited for what this new space means for our patients, our Behavioral Health team, and the Greater New Bedford community.

Thank you to NBC 10 WJAR for covering Governor Maura Healey’s visit to New Bedford Community Health and highlighting the important role community health centers play in making care more accessible and affordable.

Serving more than 25,000 patients each year, NBCH provides primary care, behavioral health, pediatrics, women's health, dental care, and other essential services to our community.

During her visit, Governor Healey spoke about the critical role community health centers like NBCH play in making health care more accessible and affordable—including helping patients manage their health, receive care earlier, and avoid more serious and costly health concerns.

We were proud to have the opportunity to share the work our teams do every day and discuss why continued investment in primary care, behavioral health, and community-based services is so important for New Bedford and communities across Massachusetts.

Thank you, NBC 10, for sharing our story!

New Bedford Community Health is proud to take part in today’s Overdose Awareness Event, coming together with our community to remember those we’ve lost, support those impacted by substance use, and raise awareness about the resources available for treatment and recovery.

Our Office-Based Addiction Treatment (OBAT) team will be there to share information about our services, answer questions, and connect community members with compassionate, accessible support.

💜 Recovery is possible, and you don’t have to navigate it alone. Whether you’re looking for support for yourself or someone you care about, our OBAT team is here to help you take the next step.

Join us on August 25 in Downtown New Bedford as we come together for International Overdose Awareness Day, marking 25 years of remembrance, awareness, and action.

Together, we will honor the lives lost to overdose, support those who are grieving, and stand with individuals and families impacted by substance use.

A special visit to New Bedford Community Health. 💙

We were honored to welcome Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll to NBCH for a tour led by our President & CEO, Cheryl Bartlett. They were joined by State Representatives Tony Cabral, Chris Hendricks, State Rep Mark Sylvia, State Rep Steve Ouellette, as well as Amy Rosenthal, Undersecretary of Health for the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services.

Throughout the tour, Cheryl had the opportunity to share the story of NBCH—the work happening here every day, the needs of the community we serve, and our vision for the future of health care in New Bedford.

Our guests visited our Pediatrics Department and toured New Bedford Community Health and Wellness, our new behavioral health facility. They also saw the progress being made in the former Rite Aid building, which is being transformed into dedicated primary care space through our More Access, Better Care – Building for a Healthier Future Capital Campaign.

Along the way, they viewed our newly installed mural, commissioned by Senator Mark Montigny, honoring New Bedford civil rights activist Dr. Jibreel Khazan and saw more of the people, programs, and spaces that make up NBCH.

As the only provider of primary care services in the City of New Bedford, serving approximately 25,000 patients each year, we were proud to have the opportunity to show our state leaders firsthand just how important accessible, comprehensive community-based health care is to our city.

Thank you to Governor Healey, Lieutenant Governor Driscoll, and our state leaders for spending time with us, listening to our story, and learning more about the work we are doing today—and what we are building for tomorrow.

🏆 We’re proud to share some exciting news!

New Bedford Community Health has been recognized by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) with 5 Community Health Quality Recognition (CHQR) Badges for our commitment to providing high-quality care to our community!

Among these honors, NBCH earned the Silver Health Center Quality Leader Badge, placing us among the top 20% of health centers nationwide for quality performance. 🥈

This recognition reflects the dedication of our entire NBCH team—from our providers and clinical staff to the many team members working behind the scenes to support our patients every day.

We are incredibly proud of this achievement and even more proud of what it represents: our continued commitment to improving health, expanding access to care, and providing our community with the quality healthcare it deserves. 💙

Congratulations to Team NBCH!

🎉 What a way to wrap up National Health Center Week! 💙

On Saturday, New Bedford Community Health welcomed more than 4,000 attendees to our We Care Community Health Fair for a day dedicated to health, wellness, resources, and family fun.

Together, we gave away 1,500 backpacks, welcomed 50 community organizations sharing valuable resources, provided wellness information and fluoride treatments, and enjoyed healthy snacks, clowns, and music from 508 MUZIK!

A very special THANK YOU to our presenting sponsor, Tufts Health Plan Point32Health, for helping make this incredible community event possible! 💙

We are incredibly grateful to every community organization, staff member, volunteer, and partner who helped make this event possible — and to the thousands of community members who came out to celebrate with us!

National Health Center Week recognizes the vital role community health centers play in keeping communities healthy, connected, and supported. We couldn’t think of a better way to close out the week than by bringing so many members of our community together.
