These may surprise you.
1️⃣ The tightness you feel may not actually be coming from a “tight muscle.”
Chest tightness after breast cancer surgery or radiation can come from a combination of things, including scar restrictions, radiation-related tissue changes, swelling or lymphedema, postural changes, upper-back weakness…
and yes, tight chest muscles too.
2️⃣ Stretching your chest over and over may not be enough.
Because chest tightness can come from several different sources (as mentioned above), stretching alone may only address one piece of the problem.
If scar tissue restrictions, swelling, ribcage stiffness, posture, or other tissue changes are contributing, those factors need attention too.
Improving chest tightness often means using a combination of:
✨ Targeted chest openers
✨ Upper-back strengthening
✨ Ribcage mobility
✨ Scar massage
✨ Postural retraining
✨ Addressing swelling/lymphedema when present
The goal is not simply to stretch harder.
It is to understand why you feel tight and address what is actually contributing to it.
Chest tightness is incredibly common after breast cancer treatment, but common does not mean you just have to live with it.
