Hi, my name is Leah Geoghegan and I am a board-certified Primary Care and Functional Medicine Nurse Practitioner with a mission to increase access to high-quality holistic health care. My practice of medicine draws on over 6 years of experience working in both acute and primary care

settings throughout New York--from the NYU Langone Emergency Department to a private Manhattan Functional Medicine practice. From Emergency to Emergence Health, I have evolved my vision to start my own telehealth holistic practice. My company, Emergence Health, focuses on providing affordable holistic health care that works with the body’s innate ability to heal. The company ethos is the epicenter of my approach and includes listening to the body, celebrating every person’s individuality, collaborative patient-provider relationships rooted in trust, and engagement within a supportive community. Looking for a brunch recipe that fuels your body and tastes amazing? 🌿🥑🍳
This Savory Lentil & Veggie Breakfast Bowl is packed with protein, fiber, and immune-boosting nutrients - perfect for starting your day energized and satisfied.

Ingredients:

🫘 1/2 cup cooked lentils
🍠 1/2 cup cooked sweet potato
🍄 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
🌱 1 cup fresh spinach
🥑 1/2 avocado, sliced
🥚 1-2 poached eggs
🧂 salt & pepper, to taste
🫒 1 tsp olive oil

Instructions:

Heat olive oil in a pan, sauté mushrooms until golden.
Add spinach and cook until just wilted.
Warm the cooked lentils in a separate pan.
Assemble your bowl: lentils first, then sautéed veggies, avocado slices, and top with poached eggs.
Season with salt and pepper. Enjoy immediately!

Summer skincare from a functional medicine lens is about more than just what you put on your skin. It’s about supporting your skin from the inside out while protecting it from seasonal stressors ☀️🌿⁠

Here are a few simple do’s and don'ts to keep your skin healthy all summer long:⁠

1️⃣ DO hydrate consistently⁠
Your skin relies on proper hydration to maintain elasticity and barrier function. Drink water throughout the day and consider adding electrolytes or mineral-rich foods like cucumbers, citrus, and leafy greens.⁠

2️⃣ DO support your skin with nutrient-dense foods⁠
Healthy skin starts in the gut. Focus on antioxidant-rich foods like berries, colorful vegetables, omega-3 fats, and vitamin C–rich foods to help support collagen and protect against oxidative stress.⁠

3️⃣ DO choose cleaner skincare products⁠
Summer heat can increase absorption through the skin. Opt for gentle, non-toxic products and mineral-based sunscreens when possible.⁠

4️⃣ DON'T overdo harsh exfoliation⁠
Sun exposure can already stress the skin. Over-exfoliating with strong acids or scrubs can weaken the skin barrier and increase sensitivity.⁠

5️⃣ DON'T forget internal sun protection⁠
Nutrients like vitamin C, carotenoids, and polyphenols help support the body’s natural defenses against UV-related oxidative damage. Think tomatoes, carrots, leafy greens, and green tea.⁠

6️⃣ DON'T forget to wear a hat regularly⁠
Even when it’s cloudy, UV rays still pe*****te through the clouds and can damage the skin over time. Consistently wearing a hat helps protect the face and supports long-term skin elasticity while helping prevent premature wrinkles.⁠
