“Hey Meta – take a tandem bike ride in Central Park and make it better.”

Lighthouse Guild riders teamed up with Achilles International pilots and hit the park wearing the new Oakley Meta Vangard smart glasses — getting real-time audio description along the way, powered by AI technology.

“You’re passing three pedestrians walking side-by-side on the left edge of the lane. You have clear space to continue straight,” Instant and detailed information coloring the experience for blind riders like never before.

The road to the future of accessible technology is being paved today. Lighthouse Guild is making sure that the low vision community has a seat at the table.

Lighthouse Guild cyclists and sighted pilots from Achilles biked through Central Park using the new Meta Oakley smart glasses! A huge step forward toward a more accessible future for the low vision community. This is one way to embrace Global Accessibility Awareness, what are some others?

After a year filled with adventures and discoveries, the youngsters in the Young Explorers Program charted their final course with a field trip to the Intrepid Museum.

Students enjoyed a guided verbal description and touch tour, where they dove into history and experienced the museum hands-on.

It shorely was an incredible experience, and the perfect way to end another amazing year. 🛳

This week we’re celebrating the incredible volunteers from one of our corporate partners, .

Their team showed up all over the organization – transforming our GuildCare Adult Daycare center into a 5 star spa for Pamper Day (totally not jealous ), assisting our staff during a hands-on assistive technology workshop, and learning more about our community and other ways they can
get involved.

The smiles say it all, volunteers bring true joy to Lighthouse Guild.

Thank you for all the time and talents you provide!

Our 2026 5 Boro Bike Tour team was truly UNSTOPPABLE. We wanted to have the biggest team to date, and we succeeded by a mile - or 40 miles!

We also had the most low-vision and blind cyclists. This is our new normal. Congrats to our entire team, and thank you to our riders, volunteers and supporters.

Great job Nev and Jeremy! Big thank you to and for helping our riders show why this ride is so important to our community. Good luck on Sunday everyone riding!

We have exciting news to share.

Lighthouse Guild is proud to welcome Kathryn Webster to our Board of Directors. Kathryn is a Principal at KKR, a Harvard Business School MBA (the first totally blind person to earn that degree from Harvard), and the founder of the TAD Foundation, a nonprofit working to expand employment opportunities for the blind and low-vision community in corporate America.

Kathryn has spent her career proving what becomes possible when talent meets access — and using that proof to open doors for others. As a board member, she brings not only extraordinary professional expertise, but something equally important: the lived experience of navigating and changing a world not built with her in mind.

We are grateful she is bringing her leadership to Lighthouse Guild. 💙

Our volunteers don’t wear capes (at least not that we’ve seen). Some come from our corporate partners. Some just show up because they want to give back. But all of them are our heroes. Every day of the year our volunteers show up — reading, teaching, guiding, or just being there for our community.

Happy National Volunteer Week to the people who make Lighthouse Guild what it is. We see you, we appreciate you, and we wouldn't be the same without you.

National Volunteer Week may be coming to an end, but the appreciation doesn't stop here. 🎉 We can't wait to see our incredible volunteers face to face at our 2026 Volunteer Recognition Night next week!

We’re still feeling inspired after this weekend’s incredible performance of Patterns by AXIS Dance Company at Lincoln Center. 💫

Through our growing collaboration with Lincoln Center, members of the blind and low vision community at Lighthouse Guild were welcomed with early access seating and real-time audio description to the performance — helping ensure a more inclusive and meaningful experience for everyone.

One attendee with low vision, but totally new to audio description, told us she was moved to tears by the performance combined with the additional audio – a true testament to the power of accessibility.

Thank you to the Lincoln Center team for your shared commitment to making the arts within reach our community. We’re excited for what’s ahead!
