That 3pm coffee feels like a lifesaver until you're wide awake at midnight. Caffeine sticks around longer than most people think. On average it takes about 5 hours for your body to clear half of it, so an afternoon cup can still be working when you're trying to fall asleep.
Here's what to reach for instead:
πΏ Peppermint tea: refreshing and wakes up your senses without any caffeine
π« Ginger tea: warming, with a little kick
π Rooibos: naturally sweet and smooth, a cozy stand-in for black tea
πΌ Chamomile: perfect later in the day as you start winding down
β¨ Golden milk: creamy and comforting (the recipe is in my post from last Friday!)
Make the switch easier:
β
Keep your coffee to the morning, and set a cutoff of noon or 1pm
β
Keep the ritual: same mug, same break, new drink
β
Feeling the slump? Try a glass of water and a 5-minute walk first, since an afternoon dip can come from thirst or sitting too long
β
Check labels: green, black and chai teas all contain caffeine. Herbal teas are naturally caffeine-free.
You don't have to give up coffee. Just give it a curfew. π
