Ever avoid a boring task by doing harder things instead? Welcome to PROCRASTIVITY!️
"Procrastivity" = avoiding what you dread most by doing something else that feels productive (but isn't actually the priority).
The funny part is the thing you end up doing might also be something you hate, but it suddenly feels doable because you hate it LESS than the priority task. (Anyone else always clean your room spotless every time you had to study?🙋♀️ )
So here's a quick way to tell if you're being productive or "procrastive":
1. Would skipping this task actually cause a problem? (If no, it’s procrastivity.)
2. Is this directly tied to my goals or deadlines? (If not, it’s procrastivity.)
3. If my time was really limited, would I still do this first? (If no, it’s procrastivity.)
4. Am I choosing this to avoid something harder or more boring? (If yes, it’s procrastivity.)
How to Shift Back to Productivity:
✔ Make the real task smaller—Commit to just 5-10 minutes. Or break it down into smaller tasks.
✔ Tie it to dopamine—Set a timer, play music, set a reward, or change your environment.
✔ Use external accountability—Tell someone what you’ll do & check in when it’s done. ...).
✔ "Body Duping" — like the concept of body doubling but instead of asking someone else to watch me I just video myself -- sounds weird but it works!
What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve done instead of the task you actually needed to do? Best (or worst?) answer wins!
