Captivated…….looking forward ! Ippodo Gallery The flowing nature of kana script evokes a visual language before any linguistic meaning. Each stroke inherently possesses rhythm, a breath in the spaces intentionally left between. The contemporary calligrapher Nemoto has opened up a new possibility in the modern art of kana.

Visit Leaves of Words at Ippodo Gallery in TriBeCa, New York from October 30 to December 5 2026. Calligrapher Satoshi Nemoto and metal artist Tsuneo Nakazawa will be present for an Opening Reception on October 30 from 6-8pm. The artists will speak about the tradition of Japanese kana and waka poetry, as well as their individual artistic techniques during an Artist Talk on October 31 from 1-2pm. RSVP through the link in our bio.

Oh, yes. These are such a joy to behold ! I was lucky enough to see one in SoHo in its full glory before passersby began to help themselves to the flowers ! ✨parlor.social.club Only in New York could a trash can become the prettiest thing on the block.

Since 2016, floral designer Lewis Miller has been surprising the city with his Flower Flashes, temporary installations that appear before dawn in unexpected places like trash cans, subway entrances, construction sites, and public monuments.

Part of the appeal is that you’re never really meant to plan for them. They arrive without much warning, live briefly in the middle of the city, and then disappear. Miller has also reused flowers from private events for some installations, giving them a second life in public.

The New Yorker once called him the “Banksy of Floral Design,” which feels about right. Same element of surprise, just considerably more hydrangeas.

A good reminder that in New York, sometimes the best thing you see all day is the thing you weren’t looking for.
