Compassionate Support Through Loss Training For Doulas
Wednesday June 3rd, 2026 9-12 PM PST

Walking through loss changed everything for me. It opened my eyes to the gaps in support families face during some of the most heartbreaking, vulnerable moments of their lives — and it showed me just how powerful a doula’s presence can be in those spaces.

When families invite us (doulas) into their pregnancy and birth journeys, they are trusting us deeply. That support shouldn’t disappear if the story shifts unexpectedly.

If we are prepared to support pregnancy and birth, we must also be prepared to support through loss.

I created Compassionate Support Through Loss — a foundational bereavement training, designed to help doulas feel grounded, confident, and equipped to provide trauma-informed, compassionate care when it matters most.

In this training, participants will learn to:
✨ Define types of pregnancy & infant loss and their impact
✨ Recognize the needs of grieving families
✨ Learn key ways to support families as a doula
✨ Apply effective communication strategies
✨ Understand the importance of postpartum support after loss
✨ Develop self-care strategies and personal support systems

Families deserve doulas who are prepared — not just for the expected, but for the unexpected.

I wish I had a doula when my daughter Lena was stillborn. After my loss, I knew something was missing in the care families receive during these heartbreaking experiences. Now, as a doula, I’ve seen firsthand that doula support is the critical missing piece. Founding Doula Synergy is my way of making sure no family walks that path alone.

I'm thrilled to announce that Doula Synergy is now a fiscally sponsored project of Star Legacy Foundation! This partnership gives us the support and infrastructure to grow our programs and reach more families in need.

With this partnership, we can:
● Expand grief circles and provide hands-on support for more families navigating loss
● Develop and grow specialized training and educational programs for doulas
● Offer tax-deductible giving, pursue grant opportunities, and ensure professional, transparent management of all funds
● Strengthen connections between families and skilled, compassionate doulas

This Giving Tuesday, please consider helping us ensure no family faces pregnancy or infant loss alone. Your donation directly supports compassionate care, program expansion, and building a network of doulas ready to walk alongside families in their hardest moments.

Today I completed my fourth tour of the Providence hospitals, and I’m feeling so grateful for the opportunity- thank you Rauna!!

These tours have been such a great way to get doulas familiar with the space — knowing where to find birth balls, water, snacks, extra linens, and how the beds work. The more we understand the environment, the better we can care for our clients (and take a few things off the nurses’ plates!).

It’s also a bit of a full circle moment for me — Lena was born at Providence Glisan, back when they actually had doulas on staff (pre-covid). Our experience was beautiful, even though the situation was devastating — she was stillborn. I felt like the support ended when I left the hospital and that my I wore the tainted lens of loss throughout the rest of my parenthood journey. What I learned through that experience is that having the right support makes such a huge difference and that people experiencing loss deserve specialized and compassionate care.

I’m so thankful that Providence has a Doula Collaborative Program (and that im apart of it), ensuring families have access to trained, compassionate doulas who can make a real difference in birth experiences and outcomes.

Thank you Gathered & Wise for sharing some local food sources for those in need!

With the uncertainty around SNAP and WIC benefits going into November, we wanted to share local resources to help reduce food insecurity.

Please feel free to drop the contact information of any food assistance providers in Oregon, and if you’re able to help, now is a great time to make a donation to local food banks to support our community in need. No one should have to go hungry. 💛🍎

Thank you to Hailey at the Salem Reporter for helping us spread the word about the Vigil tomorrow night (Thursday 9/18) to honor all the babies that died too soon and shed light on stillbirth.

We've partnered with Healthy Birth Day, Inc. to illuminate the bridge in honor of Stillbirth for National Stillbirth Prevention & Awareness Day (Sept 19th).

Join me and my co-facilitator Samantha (Silver Falls Family Support ) this Thursday night at 9 PM for a community candlelight vigil to honor the babies that were lost too soon. The Union Street railroad bridge will be lit on Thursday and Friday evenings in purple and teal in honor of Stillbirth awareness and prevention day(9/19). All are welcome to join, meet on the bridge at 9pm and wear purple and teal if you have it!

This is part of a growing nationwide movement to shed light on one of the most unrecognized public health crisis, led by Healthy Birth Day, Inc. Each year approximately 21,000 babies are still born in the US more than SIDS and prematurity combined. 25% of these losses may be preventable with greater awareness, education and timely support. I believe that my daughter Lena may be alive today if I would have been counting her kicks, she was stillborn 9/29/18. Doula Synergy provides education for Doulas and resources for families experiencing loss including pregnancy and infant loss grief circles.

Our monthly grief, circle sponsored by Compass Perinatal Peer Support will also be that evening from 6:30-8:30pm at Salem Health open to anyone who has carried a baby who died.

No registration required.
