Most families don’t even realize they are a paycheck or 2 away from homelessness or the elderly couple that can no longer keep up with property taxes and find themselves homeless.

Unfortunately many view homelessness in a different light and don’t understand the stats

#2 Children over 26,000 that we know of

Oklahoma COMPLETELY defunded Mental Health at a State level this last March. They found it cheaper to pay the federal penalty to not have a program than to fund it.
So we are reliant on privately held NonProfits to help when our State won’t

City Care is here to restore dignity and hope to any person in need that wants help.

We became informed today at city care.
Did you know if you need emergency services they have open beds.
They have created living opportunities for all walks of life including families, elderly from temporary to permanent housing.

Today, I had the opportunity to visit City Care and learn more about the work they are doing to serve some of our most vulnerable neighbors.

I was especially impressed by their approach to homelessness—not simply providing a safe place to sleep, but working to address the barriers that keep people from finding stability and permanent housing.

One of the most interesting parts of our visit was learning about City Care’s new Medical Respite Center, which will provide a place for people experiencing homelessness to recover after being discharged from the hospital when they are not yet well enough to return to the street or a traditional shelter. It fills a very real gap in our community while helping people get connected with the services and housing support they need.

We had a great conversation about the challenges they see every day, the people they serve, and what it takes to create lasting solutions.

Thank you to the City Care team for welcoming us, showing us around, and taking the time to share your work with us. I truly enjoyed the visit and appreciated the opportunity to listen and learn more about what you're doing for Oklahoma City.

🌽 CORN SHOULD BE ALPHA-GAL SAFE… RIGHT?

Corn is a plant.
Glyphosate is synthetic.
So where could a potential mammalian exposure come from?

The answer may be hiding in the herbicide formulation — not the corn itself.

Some herbicide formulations historically used on conventional crops have contained **POEA (polyethoxylated tallow amine)** as a surfactant.

And yes — **“tallow” can mean exactly what you think it means: animal fat.**

Here’s where the nuance matters:

🌽 Corn itself does not contain alpha-gal.
🧬 Being GMO does not make corn an alpha-gal food.
🧪 Glyphosate itself is not a mammalian-derived molecule.

But the *formulation* applied to a crop may contain surfactants, adjuvants or other ingredients whose starting materials can be **animal- or plant-derived**.

That raises an important question for people with Alpha-Gal Syndrome:

**Could mammalian-derived agricultural ingredients contribute to reactions in highly sensitive individuals?**

Right now, we do not have evidence proving that tallow-derived surfactants leave clinically meaningful alpha-gal residues on the finished food. So I would not tell someone with AGS that conventional corn is automatically unsafe.

But I also wouldn't dismiss the question.

This is exactly why some people with Alpha-Gal Syndrome tell us:

*"I can eat organic corn, but conventional corn bothers me."*

There may be variables upstream that aren't visible on the food label.

🌱 Why organic may be worth trying

Certified-organic corn cannot be produced using most conventional synthetic herbicides, including glyphosate. Choosing organic therefore removes one potential exposure pathway involving these herbicide formulations.

That doesn't prove glyphosate or its surfactants caused someone's symptoms, but it gives us a reasonable variable to eliminate when we're trying to identify a hidden trigger.

The ingredient label doesn't always tell the entire supply-chain story. For highly sensitive Alpha-Gal patients, mechanisms matter!!
