Founded in 1996, Angel Flight NE coordinates free flights for children and adults in need of critical medical care outside of their geographic area who do not have the resources to access the care they need or suffer from a compromised immune system. Approximately 40% of AFNE’s patients are children suffering from life-threatening cancer, severe burns or crippling diseases. AFNE flies patients for
as long and as often as they need to travel, with no limit on the number of flights provided. We also transports free of charge blood and organs for patients awaiting organ transplants. Headquartered at Lawrence Municipal Airport, Angel Flight NE missions depend upon the services and private aircraft of more than 400 volunteer pilots and “Earth Angels,” the latter of whom provide ground transportation for patients to and from hospitals and airports. Since AFNE’s founding, the company has scheduled over 110,000 patient/passenger missions who have been flown more than 16 million miles to 750+ medical facilities. AFNE principally serves a nine-state region comprised of Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, but has flown missions throughout the United States with the assistance of our commercial aviation partners JetBlue and Cape Air.
