💛 Sometimes, we all need someone to show up for us.

Lakesha has spent so much of her life showing up for the people she loves—especially her children. She’s the kind of mother who keeps going, keeps providing, and keeps doing what needs to be done.

But right now, Lakesha needs us to show up for her.

Living with SLE Lupus, her health has taken a serious turn since May, leaving her unable to work. She’s been hospitalized with sepsis, and just when she was preparing to get back on her feet and return to work, she ended up back in the ER—this time needing emergency cardiac surgery.

Now she’s focused on what matters most: healing and getting stronger.

But while she’s healing, the bills and everyday responsibilities don’t stop.

There’s still a home to maintain.
There’s still food to put on the table.
There are medical expenses, transportation needs, and children who still need their mama.

Three months ago, I bought a car secondhand. Since then, the repairs have cost me far more than I ever expected — and there was a moment I sat there and cried.

For a minute, all I could see was the money going out and the frustration piling up.

But somewhere in the middle of that cry, something shifted. I started naming what was still right. My health. A roof over my head. Food on the table. My children, healthy and safe. My mind, clear enough to keep going. A business with customers still showing up, even in a shaky economy.

None of it made the repair bill smaller. I still had to pay it. But my body softened. My breathing slowed. I felt less like I was drowning and more like I was standing on solid ground again.
