Karuna Wellness Studio

Karuna Wellness Studio Karuna Wellness Studio is built on acceptance and whole-body self-care. Welcome to Karuna: Nutrition + Movement, we're glad you’re here! First - KARUNA.

Karuna is a first-of-its-kind wellness studio offering nutrition counseling, cooking lessons and movement classes. Karuna was started by our owner Kate Thomas as an individual private nutrition practice in 2013. With a background in marketing and advertising, Kate always knew she wanted to build her practice into something bigger. During her first few years of counseling clients, the idea of Karun

a came to shape - a place where children and adults can learn to take care of their bodies in a place that’s fun, warm, all-inclusive and non-judgemental. This dream has finally come alive as we open our doors to the community in June 2019 with a brand new office with two movement studios, a small teaching kitchen and a growing team of licensed Registered Dietitians to provide evidence-based, individualized nutrition counseling. So what does our company name mean? Karuna is a Sanskrit word that translates as compassion. In her years of counseling in her private practice, owner Kate found that her clients ability to make changes to their health and lifestyle came down to one thing - having compassion for their body and their choices. We are all SO HARD ON OURSELVES, and well, that's just not fair. At Karuna, we feel that self compassion is the first step to better health and positive relationships with food, and our goal is to teach children and adults to show more compassion for themselves with a whole-body approach: eating well, moving their bodies, sleeping, and decreasing stress. As always, our practice strives to provide a supportive, non-judgemental, body positive, and welcoming environment for all our clients. Next - NUTRITION. Well, this one is easier. This business was founded on a practice providing nutrition counseling using a "whole health" philosophy and we continue to pride ourselves on evidence-based, medical nutrition therapy implemented with a real life, whole food approach that is realistic and sustainable. With this, we will continue to take a strict "non-diet approach" as we continue to intertwine principles of intuitive eating and Health At Every Size®, to support our goal of compassion. We will continue to improve our program offerings for families struggling with meal planning, picky eaters, disordered eating and eating disorders, and weight management from a weight neutral, HAES approach. With our new kitchen space, we plan to that take our clients outside the office and into the kitchen, where we can truly foster a new relationship with food. And lastly - MOVEMENT. It is our goal to find new and creative ways to bring more movement options to our clients. Exercise does NOT mean putting in hours at the gym, and we strive to find new, fun ways to help our clients move their bodies with confidence and joy . Movement has been shown to decrease stress response in the body, and as a result, reduce the heart rate, lower blood pressure, and ease respiration. Movement can improve symptoms of anxiety and depression, teach self-soothing techniques, breathing, awareness of emotions, the ability to be present, and fosters the development of a positive and compassionate relationship with the body. For children, structured physical activity provides both an energy and emotional outlet. It decreases stress, teaches control, socialization, discipline and relaxation. We believe that joyful movement is critical to mental and physical health and well-being. We look forward to working and growing with you all! Please feel free to contact our office with questions about our practice, philosophy or to book an appointment. Phone // 781-269-1623

🌈 This is your sign to eat the rainbow!

Colorful foods do more than brighten your plate—they provide unique phytonutrients that support physical and mental well-being.

Different colors offer different benefits, which is why variety matters. From supporting heart and immune health to helping nourish your brain and mood, adding more color to your meals is a simple way to care for your overall health.

You don't need to eat every color every day—just look for opportunities to add a little more variety when you can.

We recently wrote a blog post all about the connection between colorful foods, phytonutrients, and mental well-being:

🌈 Eating the Rainbow: How Colorful Foods Support Mental Health

This peanut noodle salad has been on repeat in our bento boxes lately 👏🥜

Because contrary to what wellness culture tries to tell you… salads do not need to be sad, dry, or leave you hungry 45 minutes later.

This one has:
✨ Fiber
✨ Protein
✨ Yummy fats
✨ Crunch
✨ Flavor that tastes GOOD

AKA the things that help meals feel satisfying instead of like a punishment.

Also, Using a store-bought peanut sauce is completely valid. We are big fans of making nourishing meals feel easier and more realistic around here.

Save this for an easy lunch, dinner, or meal prep idea ✨

Introducing someone pretty special💚

Meet Naima! 😍✨

Naima is our Senior Registered Dietitian and Clinical Nutrition Supervisor here at Karuna, and truly one of the warmest humans you could ever hope to work with.

She has this incredibly grounding presence that makes people feel safe, understood, and comfortable almost immediately.

Her work is deeply rooted in making wellness feel more accessible and supportive for every body, with a huge passion for helping children and families navigate food during some of the most formative years of life.

Naima works closely with selective eating and ARFID, supports adults healing from chronic dieting and disordered eating, and creates a space where people can rebuild trust with food without shame or pressure.

And when she is not doing all of that?

She is in the garden wishing she had more time for all the projects she wants to do. 🌱

➡️ Swipe to get to know her a little better. We think you are going to love her as much as we do!

TUNA SALAD BENTO BOX 🐟

Have you ever had one of those weeks where the thought of another chicken bowl actually makes you want to scream a little? 😅

We’ve been there!

Which is why tuna salad has been one of our favorite ways to switch things up lately.

Easy, filling, minimal effort, and honestly a nice break from the same meals on repeat.

We also love bento-style lunches like this because they make balanced eating feel a lot more realistic.

You don’t need a full meal prep plan or a complicated recipe to put together a satisfying lunch.

The tuna salad recipe at the end takes five minutes to make 👏🏼

Simple lunches still count 💚

Save this post and let us know if you try it!

✨ And make sure to follow us on Pinterest for more easy, simple recipes and meal ideas.

Gestational diabetes is far more complex than simply “eating too much sugar.”

Pregnancy creates major hormonal shifts that can impact how the body responds to insulin.

Genetics, placental hormones, stress, sleep, and many other factors can all play a role.

This is not about being “good” or “bad” at pregnancy.

❌ And managing gestational diabetes does not mean you have to fear carbs, cut out foods you enjoy, or eat perfectly all the time.

A lot of the work is learning how to build meals and eating patterns that help support more stable blood sugars while still making sure you are eating enough and feeling nourished.

Because you deserve support that feels realistic, compassionate, and sustainable during pregnancy 💚

💫 If you’re navigating gestational diabetes and want personalized support, our dietitians are here to help. You can learn more or book through the link here: https://karunaforyou.com/nutrition-counseling-services/
