Grief doesn't come in one shape. đź–¤

However it shows up for you, it's valid.
Recognizing it is often the first step toward healing.

If you're grieving right now, be gentle with yourself.

You do not need $1,000 to have a legal will.

You need 5 minutes and one of three tools most people have never heard of.

A simple will beats no will every single time.

An attorney-drafted will typically runs $300 to $1,000, and that's exactly why so many people put this off for years. Here are three ways to get it done for a fraction of that.

Fabric by Ge**er Life is completely free and takes about 5 minutes. It covers basic assets and guardianship, no insurance required to use it.

FreeWill is also free and has helped create over 1.4 million wills. It walks you through a state-specific, guided process, and gives you the option to include charitable giving if that matters to you.

Trust & Will costs $199 for individuals with a $19 per year renewal. This one goes further, adding trusts, power of attorney, and healthcare directives on top of the basic will.

Free is enough if you just need basic asset distribution and to name a guardian for your kids. Paid starts making sense once you own a home, want a trust, or need power of attorney and healthcare directives handled too.

Whichever tool you use, the will still isn't legal until you print it, sign it, and get two witnesses who aren't beneficiaries.

A simple will is better than no will. Stop putting this off.

If you’ve ever seen a flock of birds soar overhead at just the right moment, or witnessed a butterfly land on a flower just beside a grave at a burial, you may have felt the power of the animal spirits that live amongst us in our wild landscape. In times of grief and loss, we can look to the hope of the creatures that flourish in the circle of life that is Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery. Recently, as I walked through the woods watering our native plantings, I was stopped in my tracks by the sight of a sweet baby fawn curled up awaiting its mother at the grave of Benjamin Gilkey. I had already heard of Benjamin’s story working here at PCCC, so this encounter was extra profound for me.

Benjamin passed away at 9 years old from Pre-B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. His mother comes to visit often and brings beautiful arrays of flowers and natural objects creating eye-catching mandalas atop his resting place. I've heard special stories about the spirit of the Owl that guided them to choose Benjamin’s site in the woods. The baby deer curled up visiting Benjamin almost brought tears to my eyes, a sweet moment of pause to appreciate the cycles of birth and death that flow all around us. Sharing photos of the deer with Benjamin’s family brought them joy, and it's these small moments that make the largest impact.
