Most people probably don’t know this about me, because I tend to keep my own health struggles pretty private. For years, I’ve dealt with chronic nerve pain in my hand. After multiple specialist visits, tests, and a lot of searching for answers, I finally began putting the pieces together myself. (The Allopathic Medical system provided no help). What we now believe is happening is ulnar neuropathy combined with irritation from my C-spine & neck musculature, creating what’s called a “double crush” effect. I’m incredibly grateful for my non-traditional physical therapist, chiropractor, and massage therapist who have listened to my story to keep looking deeper and, finally, start addressing the root cause of the problem. (I have declined steroid injections and the medications were of no help).
For more than a year, the pain has awakened me multiple times every night. I talk with my patients all the time about how important sleep is, yet good sleep had become incredibly elusive for me too, and I could feel the toll it was taking on my energy, stress response, and overall health. Over the last few days, my sleep has finally started improving with the awakenings fewer and less painful, and the difference in my well-being has been remarkable. Today, after dry needling, laser therapy, and medical massage, I can actually feel and see improvement in my hand. I’m hopeful this continues…and also reminded that sometimes finding the answer takes persistence, the right team, and a willingness to keep asking, “What is really causing this?” I am so very grateful and feel blessed for my team.
