Emotional Intelligence Public Offense #1: Someone telling you to "just stay calm" when you're *clearly* having big feelings. 😠

Although it might sound fun to spit back a retort ("Wow, calm down, never thought of that before!"). . . what if there were some actually helpful strategies you could use instead?

This article shares 15 self-regulation strategies backed by evidence, broken into 3 categories based on how much bandwidth you have to access your rational brain.

One quick disclaimer: Like anything real, these tools take practice. They might not be effective the first time you try them. That's okay. The important thing is THAT you try.

Likewise, the same strategy might not be right for every situation. Experiment. Take it as a learning experience.

And whatever you do, don't try to prescribe someone else's emotions—not even your own!

In tough moments, the main thing is to acknowledge what's happening. That way, you can focus on skillful damage control instead of spinning out. 🙏

Evidence-based emotional regulation exercises for adults from DBT, somatic therapy, CBT, and self-compassion research. Try them today.

Say your friend swears by this seemingly magical supplement.

It cleared up her menopause symptoms, improved her mood, boosted her energy levels. . . and you're starting to think maybe you should take it, too.

Not so fast! ✋

Just because a supplement is herbal or derived from natural sources doesn't mean it's safe for everyone.

Besides, your friend's body isn't yours. Two people can follow the exact same wellness regimen and end up with very different results.

Instead of playing supplement Russian roulette (or crashing out after an internet deep dive), get your answers from an expert.

Our APRN, Melissa Prickett, is now offering a virtual consultation to help demystify this trendy (and sometimes risky!) part of wellness. After just an hour, you'll be able to walk away feeling confident that the supplements you take are actually supporting your health.

$300 cash-pay for Nebraska residents.

Happy !

Even if you don't get the day off work, see if you can block out a few minutes for self-care in your schedule.

It doesn't have to be elaborate. Maybe it's patting yourself on the back for a job well done. Or asking for encouragement from someone you love. Or maybe it's just ending the day with a mini celebration that you made it through.

With a little self-compassion, anything can be a labor of love. 💜 😊

In case you need to hear this right now ⬇️

Despite what it might feel like, wellness isn't all or nothing.

If you're wildly uncomfortable with going to a gym. . .

If the trending "superfood" just ain't your thing. . .

If you're managing mental health issues, chronic pain, a disability, recurring symptoms. . .
. . so what?

It doesn't mean you're failing. Being in a human body is complicated. Because everyone's body is different—and because perfection literally doesn't exist—you're the one who gets to define your own wellness.

There is no rule that says you reap the benefits of moving your body only if you do it in a gym.

There is no reason you have to like sauerkraut when there's a whole world of other food you actually enjoy that can improve your gut health.

And you definitely don't deserve to feel less than because you're dealing with a condition you didn't ask for.

We're all in this human experience together, doing the best we can with what we have. But that doesn't mean our experiences need to look the same.

Keep going. You're doing great. 🫶

It's more than an annual physical.

It's a wrap-around team effort, with you at the center.

Meet Adrian Brown, one of the newest additions to our Integrative Therapy team!

Adrian is a transplant from Texas, but he's been in Nebraska for 13 years, and received his Master of Science in Social Work from UNO.

He has experience working with mood disorders, identity issues, individuals with intellectual disabilities, and adults experiencing homelessness with severe and persistent mental illness.

Adrian believes that therapy is a radical form of self-care and that in working to take care of yourself, you can be better equipped to not only live, but to thrive. His approach is multifaceted, adopting techniques from evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.

Adrian has a passion for working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community and system-impacted individuals. He believes that creating an open and safe environment using empathy, compassion, and collaboration can foster a space for healing.

When he's not in the office, Adrian enjoys reading, building Lego sets, and spending time with family, friends, and his pets.

We're glad to have him on the team! 🤗

➡️ Does Adrian sound like a good fit for your needs? Call 402-934-1617 to book an appointment!

This month, Omaha Integrative Care is 15 years old! 🥳

A decade and a half ago, our founder, Julie Luzarraga, turned her longtime dream into reality. She created this clinic as a place of sanctuary, where providers, staff, and patients could feel mutually supported and safe.

Because no matter which side of the desk we're on, we're all human. We all inhabit bodies that are made to embrace the full spectrum of that human experience—including the inevitable health challenges that come within our lifetimes.

That's why we believe in wellness, not as a destination, a state of perfection, or a cookie-cutter prescription, but as a pathway that belongs to everyone.

When we care for each other with love and compassion, we are whole.

Congratulations, Julie—this is your baby, after all! We're grateful to be part of this vision, and excited to watch it grow in years to come. 💜

Our patients are the reason we do what we do—and that's why it means so much to hear feedback like this. ⬇️

"I recently became a patient at Omaha Integrative Care, and my experience has been excellent. Every staff member has been kind, considerate, and welcoming. What stands out most is that they never make me feel rushed during appointments. They take the time to listen, answer questions, and address concerns thoroughly. It’s refreshing to find a healthcare practice where you can genuinely tell that the providers and staff care about their patients."

Thank you, Monica! 💜

Your first yoga class is free. 🧘‍♀️

What have you got to lose?

➡️ The idea that you aren't "flexible enough" to do yoga
➡️ The thought that you don't deserve to take time for yourself
➡️ The belief that classes like this are for people more spiritual, less chaotic, more or less [fill in the blank] than you

Yeah—you never needed that stuff anyway. Drop it at the door, because everyone is welcome here! 💜
