One of our audiology extern students for this past year, Myra Kraemer, focused her externship project on investigating how hearing aid technology levels influence hearing aid fittings, expressive vocabulary and speech recognition in noise.

After reviewing 120 hearing aid fittings, we found no significant differences between technology levels for how well the hearing aids were fitted, expressive vocabulary scores, or speech in noise understanding.

This is an excellent opportunity for AuD students to obtain significant exposure to research in an active laboratory conducting research related to clinical and experimental audiology, and may be of particular interest to ​students who are considering pursuing a PhD!

2026 will be the 20th consecutive year of training AuD students in research at BTNRH. Over 75% of the T35 students who have completed their research training at BTNRH have first-authored or co-authored publications in top-tier journals.
