Compression Hose...... Has your Physician suggested you begin wearing Compression Hose?

Atkinson's Pharmacy exclusively sells Jobst, the #1 Physician Recommended brand of compression stocking on the market today.

Compression hose are made to gently squeeze your legs to boost blood flow, moving blood upward toward your heart.
They are worn to reduce leg swelling, ease aching, prevent varicose veins, and lower the risk of dangerous blood clots like deep vein thrombosis (DVT) during extended travel or post-surgery recovery.
Wearing compression socks provides a few major health and lifestyle benefits:
* Improves Circulation: By applying graduated pressure—tightest at the ankle and gradually loosening up the calf—they help vein valves function properly.
* Reduces Swelling (Edema): They prevent fluid from pooling in your lower extremities, which is highly beneficial if you are pregnant, obese, or on your feet all day.
* Prevents Blood Clots: By keeping blood moving, they drastically lower the risk of DVT for individuals sitting for long periods.
* Aids Athletic Recovery: Athletes use them to increase oxygen delivery to muscles and clear lactic acid more efficiently after workouts.
**For more tailored advice, you can use the American Vein & Lymphatic Society directory or consult your local primary care physician to determine the correct pressure level for your needs.

Compression stockings are tighter than average socks you wear. They gently squeeze your legs to help your blood flow.

To prevent complaints of compression hose being "too tight,"
we focus on proper measurement protocols, client education on donning techniques, and managing expectations. Since compression garments operate on a graduated pressure gradient, the proper fit prevents dangerous constriction.
1. Pre-Sale Measurement Protocols
* Time of Day: measurements should be taken early in the morning before legs begin to swell throughout the day.
* Bare Skin: Measure against bare skin using a flexible tape measure. Pull the tape until it is snug but not pressing into the skin.
* Key Zones: Always measure the ankle circumference (at the narrowest point right above the ankle bone) and the calf circumference (at the widest point), rather than relying on shoe size.
2. Client Education & Expectation Management
* Explain the Purpose: Clarify that medical-grade compression (e.g., 20–30 mmHg) is clinically designed to be restrictive. It should feel snug and supportive but never cause numbness, tingling, or skin discoloration.
* Proper Donning: Provide a physical demonstration or printed guide on how to put them on. We instruct customers to turn the hose inside out to the heel, slip the foot in, and gently unroll/smooth the fabric up the leg. Do not pull the top band
3. We impress upon our customers that any and all items sold in our store, which come into contact with the body, including but not limited to compression hosiery, cannot be returned once it has been paid for and leaves the store. This is a Health Department Regulation, not an Atkinsons Rule. Because of this regulation, our staff takes our time to accurately measure and educate the patient prior to each purchase.

Please feel free to call or come by and visit if you have any compression hose needs.

What is a Compounding Pharmacy?

The answer is simple: Commercially manufactured medications aren’t appropriate for everyone. That’s where compounding pharmacies come in. They can create a drug that will achieve the same benefit of a commercially created one, but specifically tailored to the patient.

As the name refers “compounds,” are formulations of pharmaceutical ingredients that can be customized to a patient’s specific needs. This could involve removing an allergen or simply adding a flavor. It’s also a way to get the precise dose a patient needs based on height and weight, medical conditions, etc. Even if the medication is right, the available doses may not be ideal for a particular patient.

Compounding pharmacies also give patients access to pharmaceuticals that aren’t readily available.

Some of the Compounding Services available at Atkinsons include:

Dental Preparations
Podiatry
Hospice Care Formulas
Pain Management
Pediatrics
Sports Medicine
Bio-Hormone Replacement Therapy
Male Menopause (Andropause)
Infertility
Veterinary
Wound Care
Dermatology / Anti-Aging
