🔹 WHY IT MATTERS: PUBLISHED RESEARCH 🔹
A Strenge Spine Center Educational Series

When choosing a spine surgeon, experience in the operating room matters. But understanding the science behind spine surgery matters too.

Dr. K. Brandon Strenge has contributed to published, multicenter spine research involving topics such as:

🦴 Lumbar discectomy and prevention of recurrent disc herniation
🦴 Annular closure technology following lumbar discectomy
🦴 Two-level cervical artificial disc replacement
🦴 Clinical and imaging outcomes following cervical arthroplasty

His research collaborations have included physicians and investigators from across the country and have appeared in publications including Medicine and The Spine Journal, as well as research published through Cureus.

Why does that matter to you?

Published research requires physicians to look critically at outcomes, evidence, technology, and how different treatments actually perform in real patients.

It means Dr. Strenge’s experience with spine care extends beyond performing procedures, he has also participated in evaluating and advancing the science behind them.

Research alone doesn’t make someone a great surgeon. But when combined with board certification, fellowship training, years of surgical experience, and continued involvement in the spine community, it tells you something important:

Your surgeon isn’t simply practicing spine surgery. He’s helping study how spine surgery can continue to improve.

Evidence. Experience. Innovation.

That’s WHY IT MATTERS.

This past Saturday we got to celebrate Dr. Strenge in a big way! For a little over 2 months, there was a surprise party being planned for him. Many of his closest friends and family gathered at Barrel and Bond anxiously awaiting his arrival. He’s not the easiest person to surprise so there were many puzzle pieces that had to all fit together just right in order to pull it off but it happened! Here’s the pic of some of the Strenge Spine crew all cleaned up! 🥳
We spent most of August celebrating Dr. Strenge, but when you work for such a great person, celebrating him was easy and fun!

We’ve always said we needed two of him, now we have it! Sort of…🤣 this was his late birthday present from the office.

🔹 WHY IT MATTERS: BOARD CERTIFICATION 🔹
A Strenge Spine Center Educational Series

You’ve probably heard the term “board-certified” when choosing a physician, but have you ever wondered what it actually means?

Dr. K. Brandon Strenge is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes exclusively in the treatment of spinal conditions.

But board certification isn’t simply a title.

It represents a physician’s commitment to meeting rigorous professional standards beyond earning a medical degree and completing residency training.

Board certification involves extensive training, comprehensive examinations, evaluation of clinical knowledge and skills, and continued education throughout a physician’s career.

🩺 WHY DOES THAT MATTER TO YOU?

When you’re trusting someone with your spine, you want more than credentials hanging on a wall.

You want to know your surgeon has demonstrated the knowledge and training expected within his specialty and continues to stay current as medicine, technology, and surgical techniques evolve.

Experience, surgical judgment, outcomes, specialized training, communication, and the individual needs of each patient all matter.

But board certification gives patients another important piece of information when choosing their surgeon:

This physician has voluntarily met additional standards established by his specialty and continues to maintain those standards throughout his career.

For Dr. Strenge, board certification is just one part of a much bigger picture:

✓ Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon
✓ Fellowship-Trained in Spine Surgery
✓ Dedicated exclusively to spine care
✓ Committed to continued education and advancement in the field

💙 Your spine is complex. Who you trust with it matters.

That’s WHY IT MATTERS.

You may recognize this familiar face around Strenge Spine Center! 👋💙

After introducing you to our tiniest honorary employee yesterday, we figured it was only fair to introduce you to someone else you may occasionally see around the office, Cassie!

Cassie has spent 12 years as a medical assistant, with experience in both dermatology and spine care. While she isn’t technically a Strenge Spine Center employee, she certainly isn’t a stranger around here!

Today, Cassie works with a medical device company and continues to be involved in the care of some of our postoperative patients by helping fit bone growth stimulators when ordered and covered through certain insurance plans. And every now and then, when we need an extra set of hands around the office, she’s been known to jump in and help us out.

Outside of healthcare, Cassie is a proud Kentucky Wildcats fan 💙🏀, loves traveling with her significant other Dr. Strenge, cheering on her son at basketball and track, and being dog mom to her two German Shorthaired Pointers. She’s also currently working toward her medical science degree, because apparently she wasn’t busy enough already! 😉

And our favorite fun fact?

🎂 She’s a Leap Day baby! Born February 29th — which technically makes her the youngest person around here besides yesterday’s honorary employee. 😂

We’re thankful for Cassie and all the people, employees, providers, reps, family and friends who lend a hand and help us take care of our patients. 💙

🚨 NEW INTERN ALERT 🚨

Please welcome the newest and by far the tiniest (and that says a lot since our office manager Melenie is only 4’9” 🤣) “honorary member” of the Strenge Spine Center team! 💙

Her qualifications include:
👶 Being ridiculously cute
💤 Sleeping on the job
🍼 Taking frequent snack breaks
💙 And already looking pretty official in her Strenge Spine gear.

The training starts early around here when your aunt is Dr. Strenge’s MA and Surgery Coordinator! 😂

She may have a few years to go before she can officially join the payroll, but we think she’s got a promising future. 😉

Some of the answers may surprise you! But don’t worry, no coworkers or employees were harmed in the making of this video. It was just for fun because we are just one big family who likes to poke fun at each other. 🤗😉💙

🔹 WHY IT MATTERS 🔹
FELLOWSHIP TRAINING

You’ve probably seen the words “fellowship-trained” in a physician’s credentials, but what does that actually mean for you?

After completing medical school and an orthopedic surgery residency, Dr. K. Brandon Strenge chose to continue his education with additional, specialized training focused specifically on the spine.

From 2008–2009, Dr. Strenge completed his spine fellowship at The Spine Institute at Santa Monica – Center for Spinal Restoration in Santa Monica, California.

So, what’s the difference?

An orthopedic surgeon completes extensive training in the entire musculoskeletal system including bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and the spine.

A fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon completes that same training plus additional subspecialty training dedicated specifically to the spine.

Does fellowship training alone determine whether someone is a great surgeon? No. Experience, judgment, outcomes, communication, and many other factors matter.

But it does tell you something important:

Your surgeon chose to take that extra step to pursue additional education and concentrated training in the area of medicine they now practice every day.

🩺 Specialized training.
🦴 Focused on the spine.
💙 Focused on you.

That’s why it matters.
