The FDA recently ignited a controversy by pointing out that replacement thyroid hormone from dried, ground up pig thyroids was less clean and safe than the synthetic product. But far more alarming, some research indicates that as much as 90% of the millions of Americans on thyroid hormone are either taking too much or don't need to take it at all.

Rather than worry about natural versus synthetic thyroid hormone, many should be questioning taking it at all.

- M**h and Adderall Aren't the Same:

M**hamphetamine and Adderall (a combination of levo- and dextro- amphetamine) are similar, but not identical stimulants. The additional methyl group on methamphetamine means that it delivers a bigger burst of dopamine when it acts on the brain, and this appears to be what makes it both more addictive and more prone to causing psychosis. Stimulants aren't all the same, despite what some addiction treatment centers say.

Histamine plays important roles in both the immune system and the brain. When mast cells release histamine in the body, it can cause skin redness, itching, nausea, runny eyes and nose, decreased blood pressure, and wheezing. In the brain histamine acts as both a neurotransmitter, causing increased arousal and alertness, as well as regulating circadian rhythms and being involved with executive functions. Conventional antihistamines blocking the H1 receptor are used to treat allergies. H2 blocking antihistamines reduce stomach acidity. The newest class of antihistamines work on the H3 auto receptor and actually increase histamine levels. One H3 blocker, pitolisant, is approved for narcolepsy and preliminary studies indicate it may also help with dementia.

Hypnosis isn't just a magic trick to make people behave in bizarre or embarrassing ways. Over 240 years of scientific research back up that hypnosis is a helpful technique for treating a range of bodily and mental health problems - and the effects tend to be more long lasting and safer than many alternatives.

After a short recap of the video, I’ll be available for questions on this topic or any other related to Mental Health.

- Hypnosis and ADHD:

More than two and a half centuries of research have documented that hypnosis can be an effective treatment approach for numerous physical and mental conditions. Hypnosis involves intense focus, detachment from extraneous stimuli, and enhanced mental flexibility. Neuroscience has revealed some patterns of brain activation underlying successful hypnosis. A small amount of research indicates that hypnosis can lead to improvement in ADHD symptoms.

For years individuals have noticed that immersion in our digital world erodes attention, impulsive control and emotional regulation, and that taking time off from our devices restores clear thinking and a sense of well being. Research is confirming that not just subjective feelings, but objective performance on tasks measuring attention, memory, and impulse control can improve after stepping away from digital devices for a week or two - and that reduction in use by as little as an hour a day can provide large benefits.

After a short recap of the video, I’ll be available for questions on this topic or any other related to Mental Health.

- Digital Detox and Mental Health:

There is a wealth of personal anecdotes that digital detoxes can improve concentration, boost mood, and decrease anxiety, but in addition to these compelling stories, researchers are compiling studies that document that getting away from cell phones and/or social media for as little as a week can improve subjective and objective measures of attention, mood, and well-being. Complete avoidance of all digital input isn't necessary for benefits - as little as an hour a day in reducing immersion in the digital world can improve functioning of the brain.

Researchers recently found three distinct subtypes of ADHD, identifiable by biomarkers related to patterns of brain connectivity. Much of the mental health community applauded, claiming that the findings verified the current division of ADHD based on symptoms of either inattentiveness or hyperactivity. But the study actually thoroughly repudiated our current ADHD subtypes. Psychiatry appears to be behind the curve in accepting that most, if not all, of our traditional diagnoses need to be drastically revised.

Recent gains in neuroscience are likely to overthrow much of our current mental health diagnostic system.

Impulsivity is an important element of ADHD, addictions, mania, and su***de. Impulsivity can entail acting before thinking, ignoring or not attending to relevant information, trouble restraining initial reactions, and poor planning for the future. A recent study of the genetic contributions to impulsivity shows that impulsivity is a collection of related and overlapping traits, and not just due to a simple, unitary brain process.

- Azstarys for ADHD
https://youtu.be/tnH_VpuCMfo

After a short recap of the video, I’ll be available for questions on this topic or any other related to Mental Health.

- Azstarys for ADHD:
Azstarys is a slow release form of methylphenidate containing the prodrug, serdexmethylphenidate, as well as immediate release methylphenidate. It is frequently compared to Vyvanse, a prodrug of dextroamphetamine. It differs from Vyvanse in that it does contain immediate release medication, the cleavage of the prodrug into active drug occurs in the intestines, and much more of the drug is being released throughout the night than is the case with Vyvanse. Although many individuals can tolerate it, it is much more likely to interfere with sleep than most other formulations of methylphenidate.
