Colleagues from our Clinical Development and Medical Affairs teams recently attended the , focused on tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), a rare genetic condition that causes noncancerous tumors to grow in the brain and other organs, often leading to seizures.

Attending the conference gave our team the chance to connect with people living with TSC and hear them describe the daily realities of living with the condition. Their challenges deserve wider recognition, and their perspectives should keep shaping education, care, research and future scientific advances. That work depends on the whole TSC and scientific community moving together.

Improving the lives of people affected by seizures is at the center of our mission, and we remain committed to listening, learning and identifying meaningful ways to support the communities connected to our work.

1 in 26 people will develop epilepsy in their lifetime. Ella's Race to CURE Epilepsy is built around that fact, right down to its 2.6-mile route.

On Sunday, August 30, runners and walkers will line up in Illinois for the race, now in its 11th year, hosted by CURE Epilepsy. Funds raised support epilepsy research focused on improving understanding and outcomes for people living with epilepsy.

SK Life Science, Inc. is proud to recognize CURE Epilepsy and the community behind the event. Run the 2.6 miles, join the one-mile walk or donate from anywhere: https://www.cureepilepsy.org/event/11th-annual-ellas-race/

Community support takes many forms.

At SK Life Science, Inc., each employee receives an annual volunteer day. Recently, team members used that time to serve with St. Peter's Haven in New Jersey and Manna Food Pantries in Florida, organizations addressing food insecurity, and with Epilepsy Foundation New England’s horse camp, which brings together children and families affected by epilepsy.

We are grateful to the employees who contributed their time and put our values into action. Learn more about the purpose and values that shape our work: https://www.sklifescienceinc.com/about-us/

For people and families living with epilepsy, wellness is rarely about the latest trend or routine. It is about the support that steadies daily life: a care team that listens, a plan for the moments that are hard to predict, and people who understand the challenges of living with epilepsy.

National Wellness Month is a chance to recognize the connection, preparation and support systems that can help people feel more grounded day to day.

As a new school year approaches, students, families and faculty settle into new classrooms and routines. For students who have seizures, it also raises an important question: does everyone at school know what to do if a seizure happens?

A seizure action plan brings key information together in one place: emergency contacts, what a student's seizures may look like, response steps and guidance from their care team. Sharing the plan with the school nurse, teachers and other staff can help everyone prepare before the first bell.

The Seizure Action Plan Coalition, managed by Epilepsy Alliance America, offers a back-to-school checklist families can use to get started: https://seizureactionplans.org/virtual-backpack/

This past weekend, we joined the epilepsy community in Hawaii as they came together in purple for the annual Freedom Run/Walk, hosted by Epilepsy Foundation Hawaii.

The event helps provide local seizure first-aid training, support groups and programs for people and families living with epilepsy across the islands. SK Life Science, Inc. is proud to recognize the Foundation and everyone who showed up for the community.

Epilepsy can affect not only the person living with it, but also family, friends, caregivers and others in their support network.

The unpredictability can be one of the hardest parts. For many people and families, not knowing when the next seizure may happen can shape everyday decisions. Feeling understood by a clinician, teacher, friend or someone else in a person’s support network can make a meaningful difference.

These experiences are at the heart of a new episode of Medscape’s Hear From Her. Dr. Sunita Misra, our chief medical officer, and her sister, Dr. Vinita Misra Knight, bring clinical and industry perspectives to a conversation about keeping people with epilepsy at the center of care, from diagnosis through treatment, while recognizing the role of families and support networks.

National Intern Day is a chance to celebrate the interns whose fresh ideas and thoughtful questions strengthen our teams at SK Life Science, Inc.

Their curiosity challenges us to think differently, and their eagerness to learn strengthens our teams. Supporting early-career talent is one way we help shape the future of science while introducing the next generation to patient-centered work.

Thank you to our interns for all that you do!

Over the last few months, SK Life Science, Inc.’s Pacific Region team joined 10 epilepsy-focused events across California and Hawaii, including local walks and patient education programs.

Each event created space to listen, connect and stay close to the needs of people affected by epilepsy. We’re grateful to the team members and community partners who continue to show up in meaningful ways.
