Technology is helping care teams find the right destination for patients faster.

Through the Innovation Academic Incubator, we’re working with Bradley University on an AI-powered CareHub intake agent designed to support patient transfers across the OSF HealthCare network.

The tool will use real-time information about hospital capabilities, physician coverage and patient needs to provide recommendations for where patients can receive the right care – helping care teams focus their time and expertise where it's needed most.

It’s one example of how academic collaboration can turn emerging technology into practical solutions for health care.

Combining pharmacology and genomics helps doctors choose the right drugs and correct doses for each person’s genetic makeup, aiming to make treatments safer and more effective.

🌟 Mission Partner Monday 🌟
Meet Jessica Scarcliff, performance improvement specialist with OSF Innovation. Jessica likes to describe this role as helping turn “this process is messy” into “okay, now we have a plan.” In this role she supports teams by mapping workflows, identifying gaps, building project charters, developing measurable goals and helping move improvement work from idea to action.

While Jessica has been working as a performance improvement specialist for two and a half years, this is her first official role at OSF. Her work at previous jobs in compliance, credentialing, operations and patient access helped build a strong foundation for the work she does today.

Her favorite part of her job is the Mission Partners she gets to work with every day. Jessica says she partners with a variety of teams across the Ministry, which allows her to learn about and better understand their work while helping make their processes easier and more efficient. While she finds the projects interesting, she believes it's the people behind the work who make it truly meaningful.

To her, serving with the greatest care and love means leading with others in mind first. She says that at OSF Innovation, conversations often center around metrics, workflows and process improvement. However, at the heart of that work is a commitment to making care easier, safer and better for patients, families and fellow Mission Partners.

Jessica attended Dakota State University, where she was a proud Trojan. Today, she's a farmer's wife who knows far more about planting season, harvest and equipment breakdowns than she ever expected. And if she accidentally calls a piece of equipment by the wrong name, her 5-year-old is always quick to correct her!

Thank you, Jessica, for exemplifying the OSF Mission and demonstrating what it means to serve with the greatest care and love.

🫀 AI is helping transform the way we detect and monitor aortic aneurysms.

A team at OSF HealthCare, led by pediatric cardiologist University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria associate professor Matthew Bramlet, MD, has developed an AI-powered tool that creates detailed 3D models of the aorta and generates hundreds of precise measurements in seconds.

This innovation has the potential to improve how physicians track aneurysm growth, identify risks earlier and make more informed decisions about when surgery may be needed.

A safer surgery can start long before a patient enters the operating room.

Two OSF HealthCare nurses saw a problem with unexpected medical implants and helped create a solution. With support from OSF Innovation Studio, DeviceWise helps surgical teams identify patients' medical implants ahead of time and understand the precautions needed to keep them safe during surgery.

The technology has already helped reduce surgery cancellations at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center – and it’s coming to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center this fall.

DeviceWise, a program that helps hospital staff prepare patients with medical implants for surgery, has been in development for more than eight years. It's reduced cancellations in Peoria by 10%.

This summer, students in grades 3-8 explored the world of health care through hands-on STEAM activities at our Innovation Hub at OSF Saint Paul Medical Center in Mendota. From learning how lungs work to exploring surgery, engineering, vision and the immune system, campers discovered the science behind keeping people healthy.
