I feel like this reminder needs to be more than yearly 🩷 it can be a very hard lesson to learn.

The person behind that call bell isn’t thinking about your follower count.

They’re wondering if someone is coming.

I love seeing nurses find their voices. We have so much to say about this profession, and we deserve to be heard.

But we also have to be willing to talk about how we use that voice.

We fight to be taken seriously. To have our workload understood. To have the responsibility we carry recognized.

What we choose to film at work can work against everything we’re trying to explain.

And even when a patient is off-screen, we’re still in a space where someone is scared, hurting, or depending on us.

That matters.

Make the content. Tell the truth. Be funny. Be loud about what needs to change.

Please do it away from patient care.

I want us to build platforms we’re proud of—and that the people in our care could trust.

Protecting the profession means holding ourselves to the standards we’re asking others to respect. 🤍

I fight for nurses.
That’s why this hurts to say.

We cannot ask the world to respect nursing while looking away when we fail the people in our care.

You don’t have to understand someone’s symptoms to take them seriously. You still have a responsibility to assess, listen, and follow through.

The person in that bed should never have to convince you they deserve care.

I still love being a nurse.

And I needed my nurse to be one, too.

I want the nurses coming after us to hear “that’s how it used to be” and be relieved they never had to experience it.

But I want better for us, too.
While we’re still here. While we still have something left.

We advocate for patients every day. Our own safety, health, and future deserve that same conviction.

Loving nursing is a reason to speak up about what needs to change.

Somewhere, a new nurse is deciding whether it’s safe to ask you a question.

You remember that feeling.
Rehearsing the words.
Waiting until someone seemed approachable.
Saying “sorry” before you’d even asked.

Years later, you may remember the humiliation more clearly than the lesson.

You can hold someone to a high standard and still protect their dignity. You can correct a mistake without making them afraid to tell you about the next one.

And if you’re the experienced nurse who makes room for questions, steps in when someone is being belittled, or says, “Come here, I’ll show you”—you may never know how much that matters.

They might remember you for the rest of their career.

Give them something good to carry forward.
