The shift got covered.
That doesn’t always mean staffing was fine.
Sometimes it means someone skipped lunch.
Someone stayed late.
Someone picked up on their day off.
Someone just kept going because the patients still needed care.
Healthcare workers are really good at filling the gaps.
The problem is when that starts making the gaps look acceptable.
A unit should not depend on people constantly giving more than they were scheduled, staffed, or supported to give.
