The South Dakota Council on Developmental Disabilities has created draft goals for our upcoming state plan and is seeking public comment. The public comment period will be open from May 1, 2026 - June 15, 2026. Please utilize this survey to provide your feedback. DRSD will be moving into summer hours starting May 29th until September 4th, 2026. We will be open Monday to Thursday 8-12 (noon) and 1-5pm. Friday we are open from 8-12 (noon).

The South Dakota Attorney General’s office has withdrawn from Texas v. Kennedy!!!

Disability Rights South Dakota wishes to thank everyone who spoke up to express their concerns about the potential impact that this case could have on civil rights protections for people with disabilities – especially those people who rely on community-based services.

Also, a big THANK YOU to the South Dakota Attorney General’s office and the Office of the Governor for being willing to receive input from, and being sensitive to the concerns of, families and self-advocates. Your openness to listening thoughtfully to people with disabilities, families, and the broader disability community showed a genuine commitment to understanding every perspective before making this final decision.

As of today the following States remain as plaintiffs in the case: Texas, Alaska, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, and Montana.
