The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Ombuds (IDDO) program helps those living with intellectual disabilities by providing guidance and advocacy materials to them, family members, caregivers, and providers. IDDO assists individuals across New York State in collaboration with the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).

IDDO’s statewide helpline is open Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. You can reach them at 1-800-762-9290 or fill out the contact form at iddony.org.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of Craig Weinstein and The Estate of Evelyn Shapiro, our Camp Adler campers at Mid Island Day Camp now enjoy a playground thoughtfully designed to support their unique abilities and needs.

More than just a playground, this special space encourages sensory regulation, physical development, confidence, and connection. Each day, our campers use it for sensory breaks, structured recreation, physical activity, and, most importantly, to experience the simple joy of being a child.

From building balance, coordination, and strength to fostering friendships through play, this playground has already become an essential part of the Camp Adler experience.

We are deeply grateful to Craig Weinstein and The Estate of Evelyn Shapiro for investing in our campers and helping create a place where every child can thrive, play, and shine

We have a new addition to MIYJCC programming! 🎒

Across Long Island, an estimated 300–400 preschool-aged children with developmental needs are awaiting placement in special education programs, delaying access to therapies and educational support that are most effective during the earliest years of development.

To help meet this growing need, the Mid Island Y JCC is opening the Adler Special Children's Center this fall. Educational and therapeutic services will be provided to children ages 3–5 with developmental needs, creating 46 new placements in its first year and helping dozens of children move off waiting lists and into classrooms where they can learn, grow, and thrive.

The Adler Special Children's Center builds on more than two decades of the MIYJCC's experience providing early childhood education, special needs services, and inclusive programming.

This summer, join the Limitless Dolphin Swim Team, a division of our Dolphin Swim Team! This newer, adaptive swim team offers opportunities to compete for people at the Adler Center.

Participants should be able to swim one full length of the pool without stopping on their front or back, and be comfortable in deep water.
