Oh … wow. 🤯 Brain - gut connection?

The GLP-1 semaglutide is associated with a lower risk for psychiatric hospitalization and relapse in patients with bipolar disorder (BD) and diabetes and/or obesity. In a large observational study, semaglutide was associated with a 21% lower risk for psychiatric hospitalization and a 17% lower risk for hospitalization for BD relapse.

Neither liraglutide nor dulaglutide was associated with a significant reduction in psychiatric hospitalization, although the investigators noted that fewer users of these drugs may have limited the analyses. When GLP-1s were evaluated as a group, however, their use was associated with a lower hospitalization risk in this patient population.

The findings raise the possibility that these medications could eventually be used as an adjunct to mood stabilizers in patients with BD and obesity or type 2 diabetes, said study investigator Mark Taylor, MD, professor at School of Medicine and Dentistry, Griffith University, in Gold Coast, Australia, and a consultant psychiatrist. https://mdsc.pe/3SZCpnC

I have reached maintenance. 135/138 lbs. Size small/medium. If I could *peel the excess skin off I’d be a straight size 4. I’m content here, though it’s much more obvious that I need to work on strength training.

Where was this compound 20 years ago?! I could have lost all my extra weight without surgery and the side effects of the roux en y. That said - I still would have picked one of them, I’ve been able to maintain a mostly normal body weight since 2004. My regains were pregnancies or totally due to too much calorie intake.

Like what? My former breakfast was nearly drowning protein toast in butter. Every day. I haven’t had that - specifically- in 9/10 months. Breakfast is a protein shake and coffee, mixed. Followed up with cottage cheese. My snack was a high protein cheese stick with a handful of crackers. I will probably have cut up watermelon in a while, and I might make a spinach Gruyère quiche for dinner.

NEWS: The FDA has authorized the first wearable sensor that continuously tracks ketone levels, along with blood sugar (glucose), in a single, wearable device.

For people living with diabetes, rising ketone levels can be an early warning sign of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) — a serious and potentially life-threatening complication. This device checks ketone levels and glucose levels every minute and sends alerts if they reach concerning levels, giving you and your caregivers more time to act.

The device is authorized for individuals as young as 2 years, making it an option for families managing diabetes in children. https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-authorizes-first-wearable-device-continuously-monitors-both-ketone-levels-and-blood-sugar

Ice cream. Maybe orange cream soft serve. It’s still my favorite thing on earth but I cannot even touch it without absolutely tearing up my digestive tract. One bite of a kids cone is all I’ll ever have since bypass. Otherwise I pay dearly.

I also have a new consult with hematology this week to discuss iron infusions (again)

Not an ad - just wanted to share my experience.

Almost there.

Regain is totally gone and I am near “goal.” I fear using the word in this weight loss community, I apologize if it’s not a thing anymore.

Unfortunately my skin is so damaged that it will never be normal. My whole goal in blogging a million years ago was to chronicle my skin removal experience.

However- I ended up with intractable epilepsy instead, with my first witnessed tonic-clonic seizure at the reconstructive surgery office. I know NOW that the experience of being in the hospital with fluorescent lights and a huge amount of stress was likely a trigger for the seizure. I was also likely having multiple types of seizures for a very long time before this - it was simply unseen.

I’m still unlikely to have major surgery to contour this puddle of a body. At least not until I am out of full time caregiver mode. Because also after the epilepsy diagnosis- I had four (more) children.
