I think hope gets a bad reputation sometimes.
I never want to give a patient false hope or promise something I can’t guarantee.
But I do want my patients to have hope.
Hope that they can feel better.
Hope that they can find answers.
Hope that their body is capable of change.
Hope that their life can be bigger than their symptoms.
If you’ve been dismissed, told your symptoms are “just part of getting older,” or told there’s nothing else to offer you, I want you to know that you don’t have to make your diagnosis your identity.
Your symptoms are something you’re experiencing.
They are not who you are.
And sometimes, separating who you are from what you’re going through can create a little space for hope again.
You don’t need a guarantee to have hope.
