Su***de is now the second leading cause of death among teens, but talking about mental health can be scary and challenging for many families due to its sensitive nature.

Talk to your teen about stress, emotions, and how to ask for help. Signs of concern can include changes in sleep, behavior, grades, or interest in favorite activities. Remind them that it’s normal to feel overwhelmed sometimes, and that reaching out for support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Keeping communication open now can help them feel safer and more confident sharing their struggles later.

We’re here to help guide these talks, screen for risk factors, and connect families to trusted resources. You are not alone and neither is your child.

Lets talk about cognitive learning with your littles

Three key areas for cognitive learning revolve around learning, thinking and problem-solving!

Baby, Toddlers and even into early childhood, they start to develop cognitive skills even when we might not think so. For example, when we teach babies "Hot, do not touch" you are activating their cognitive learning skills. As a toddler an example would be you show them how you can draw a circle, and then ask them to draw one.

Their brains are like a sponge, and they start absorbing very early on.

If you think your child isn't meeting the cognitive learning milestones, give us a call!

Does your teen get winded during exercise? Sometimes it's simply a matter of conditioning, but other times it may be exercise-induced asthma (exercise-induced bronchoconstriction).

Poor conditioning typically causes a gradual increase in breathing rate and fatigue during exercise that improves with regular training.

Exercise-induced asthma, however, often causes symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, or difficulty keeping up with peers, especially during vigorous activity.

Symptoms may occur during exercise or even 5–15 minutes after activity has ended.

Exercise-induced asthma is common in teens and should not prevent participation in sports or physical activity. With proper treatment and an asthma action plan, most teens can safely participate in the activities they enjoy.

A rescue inhaler used before exercise is often an effective way to prevent symptoms, but it's important to make sure your teen has the correct diagnosis and treatment plan.

Does your teen use a rescue inhaler at school? School medication forms are available. Let's make sure your child has access to their medication when they need it.

Many grade-school children experience “growing pains,” usually mild aches in the legs, often at night, that come and go and don’t interfere with daily activities.

These pains are common, harmless, and often relieved with gentle massage, stretching, or a warm bath.

However, some types of pain should be evaluated by a healthcare provider. Warning signs include persistent or worsening pain, swelling or redness in a joint, pain that causes limping, fever, unexplained bruising, or pain that wakes your child at night regularly. These could indicate conditions like juvenile arthritis, infections, or, rarely, more serious issues such as malignancy.

Paying attention to patterns and associated symptoms can help you know when to seek medical advice.

Not sure if it is growing pains or something more serious? Call today to schedule an appointment.

MILESTONE MONDAY!!!

Around twelve months, many babies are becoming more mobile, interactive, and engaged with their surroundings.

While every child develops at their own pace, there are several common milestones parents may begin to notice during this stage.

Common twelve month milestones may include:
- Pulling to stand and cruising along furniture
- Taking first steps or beginning to walk
- Saying simple words like “mama” or “dada” with meaning
- Waving, clapping, or using simple gestures
- Following simple directions
- Showing interest in exploring objects and their environment

Remember that development can vary from child to child, and some skills may appear earlier or later than others.

If you have questions about your child’s development or milestones, give us a call!
