Top 5 ways to boost brain health

1- Engage with people. Meet new people or deepen your contact with friends and family. Create community intentionally. Social stimulation is the best brain booster

2- Learn new activities. Do the same activities, but get better at them or do them in a different way. Travel and see new places

3- Get outside and move your body. Optimize circadian rhythm and get fresh air.

4- Meditate. This increases BDNF or brain derived neurotrophic factor which is fertilizer for your brain. Even five minutes twice a day will do the trick

5- Eat healthy fats. Your brain is 60% fat. Avocado, nuts, olive oil, meats, fish, chicken, eggs are all ways to get some brain food

In a pinch if you are sleep deprived or your brain is under stress take 10-25 grams of creatine to recycle ADP back to ATP and turbocharge your brain 🧠

Dr. Wong details how he uses creatine to boost mitochondrial health, energy, athletic and brain performance! There are few if any contraindications to taking creatine as a supplement. It is a solid pick for top 5 supplements as it boosts your heart, brain, muscles and overall body by fundamentally helping to recycle ADP back to ATP. Talk to your functional medicine practitioner for more details on how to use creatine to boost your metabolic health. Dietary sources of creatine include fish, chicken, pork, lamb and beef.

Sleep - it’s what we all want. But many times it is harder to get a good night’s rest than expected.

Here are the top 5 ways to get better sleep:

1- Wake up and see the sunlight. AM light activates your pineal gland which resets your day-night cycle.

2- Move your body 12 hours before bedtime. This maximizes the body temperature in a cycle that allows for a decent drop in temperature by night time.

3- Eat your biggest meal at midday. Your enzymes and stomach acid are working well and your food has adequate time to move through and be metabolized by your body and friendly bacteria in your gut. Make sure to be adequate protein at this meal, 30-50 grams.

4- Balance out rest and activity during the day. This is the ultradian rhythm cycle. The ideal balance is 90 minutes of activity and 30 minutes of rest. Minimize screen time but if you need to use one wear blue blocking glasses.

5- At night, turn off all overhead lights and only use lamps. This mimics firelight. Use amber lamps. Physically write two things: the 3 things you were grateful for that day; and your main tasks or activities the next day. Do this on a piece of paper, not a cell phone. Take some deep belly breaths, close your eyes and get ready for the best sleep of your life. 🌛

What works for you for better sleep? ☺️
