The North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians (NCAFP) is the state's largest specialty medical association, with a membership of more than 3,700 family physicians, Family Medicine residents and medical students. The core purpose and mission of the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians is to advance the specialty of Family Medicine, in order to improve the health of patients, families, and communities in North Carolina.

Earlier this week, NCAFP CME & Events Director Kathryn Atkinson celebrated 20 years of great work at the NCAFP! She’s pictured here with Dr. Paul Martin during our 2026 Summer Symposium, which is perfectly fitting: for the last twenty years, Kathryn has worked tirelessly and creatively to put on flawless CME events that educate and entertain our members!
“Kathryn has a fantastic mind and heart for putting on some of the best educational events in the country,” NCAFP Exec. VP and CEO Greg Griggs says. “She has always made sure that our members receive everything they need from our CME, including convenient and fun experiences with their friends and colleagues. Kathryn is also a dear friend and a pleasure to have as a leader on the NCAFP staff. She has been instrumental to the success of the NCAFP over the last two decades.”

It's now officially member renewal season! All NCAFP/AAFP members can now pay dues, report their CME, or both to remain members for another year: https://www.aafp.org/membership/join/renew

Meet Dr. Deanna Didiano! She serves as the NCAFP President-Elect, but she also keeps a full schedule of great Family Medicine: Dr. Didiano works at Atrium Health
Musculoskeletal Institute Department of Sports Medicine and as a team
physician at Queens University of Charlotte.
The flexibility of Family Medicine helped Dr. Didiano take on those different
roles. “You can really make your career as you want it to be,” she says. “With our
breadth of training, we can be jacks-of-all-trade. Family Medicine has given me a
great variety of experiences as a physician.”
We're thankful for Dr. Didiano, the good work she does, and the example she sets
for family physicians in NC!

Last week, the NCAFP staff went to Wilmington for events and education on Thursday and Friday! We started with the Wilmington Area Family Physicians Social on Thursday night but kept meeting our members on Friday too: the team at Promina Health Direct Primary Care and the residents at the Novant Health Wilmington Family Medicine Residency Program. Thank you to all the NCAFP members who welcomed our team last week!
