Celebrating Abilities. Supporting Lives. 🔴

A heartfelt thank you to our Vision and Mission Level sponsors for supporting our upcoming Celebrate Abilities Luncheon on Wednesday, October 14. Your generosity helps offset the cost of the event and provides meals for individuals we serve who want to attend but may not have the financial means to do so.

We proudly hold Celebrate Abilities each October in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), a time to recognize the value, contributions, and accomplishments of workers with disabilities. Every contribution helps us host an event that embodies our mission and the spirit of NDEAM: Empowering individuals with disabilities and mental health needs to lead fulfilling, independent lives through compassionate care, meaningful opportunities, and community connection. We are incredibly grateful for your partnership and commitment to making this celebration possible.

There's still time to become a sponsor through the link in our bio. So please consider supporting our mission and work. If you miss the deadline to support the event (this Wednesday, 10/14), additional sponsor recognition opportunities will be available through sponsorship tiers associated with our 2027 5K Run. So stay tuned!

Big changes are on the horizon for Hope Springs and Mosaic House. 🔴

In light of their pending move to a new building, members and staff of both clubhouses have shown up for one another in the most meaningful ways. That spirit was on full display this past weekend, when the Clubhouse community came together to fundraise at NAMI Berks County PA's "It's Ok to Not Be Ok" 5K.

It's a fitting reminder of what the Clubhouse model is all about: showing up, leaning on each other, and moving forward together. Everyone is excited for what lies ahead in a new, bigger space built for the community they've worked so hard to grow.

The best days are still to come.

Remembering TRS Wood Products. 🔴

These wooden cable spools represent more than craftsmanship. For decades, Threshold's Wood Products program gave participants the opportunity to manufacture essential materials for electrical and construction companies while building real, transferable workplace skills.

Though the program closed in 2019, its legacy endures. For over 61 years, Threshold has recognized that vocational training isn't just about job skills, rather, it's about building confidence, structure, and purpose. That belief remains central to everything we do.

What Does the Rebrand Mean to Us? — Heidi Shaffer, Chief Operating Officer🔴

For Heidi, Threshold's rebrand is about progress and momentum.

"It represents a new chapter built on the same values and mission that have always defined us. It’s about moving forward, embracing change, and continuing to create a community where every person is valued for who they are and empowered to reach their fullest potential."

Unshakable progress means being willing to change, no matter what. That's what this rebrand means to Heidi and to all of us at Threshold. Stay tuned as we continue to share what this milestone means to the people behind it.

Throwback to our very first logo from 1965.🔴

While the design might look a little dated now, the message behind it remains timeless: people helping people. This simple logo reflected our mission then, and it still represents our core values today.

From this vintage look to our fresh new rebrand celebrating our 61st anniversary, Threshold has consistently focused on service and community support in Berks County. We remain committed to working toward a world where all people are valued and supported to lead fulfilling lives.

As we honor our past and embrace our future, we're grateful for six decades of community partnership and look forward to continuing this important work.

NEVER FORGET.

25 years ago today, our great nation suffered a grievous attack. Nearly 3,000 Americans lost their lives. Threshold joins the rest of the nation in mourning what was, and continues to be, an absolute tragedy.

While our world looks profoundly different now than in 2001, it's important to remember that America was intensely unified in the days following the attacks. That unity was predicated on a firm understanding that the only requirement for being an American was a belief in our system of laws and rules, of modus vivendi: "live and let live, the coexistence of [seemingly] incompatible ways of life within a common framework of rules." Everyone knew that this principle was precisely what made us so great, so economically prosperous, and, tragically, why Al-Qaeda targeted us.

On this 25th anniversary of 9/11, allow "Never Forget" to take on an additional dimension: our shared American identity. Despite what viral slop on Facebook tries to tell you, it hasn't gone anywhere.

We are one people with a shared commitment to tolerance, freedom of expression, and self-determination.

We are one United States of America.

Mosaic House Celebrates Potato Day at Jim Dietrich Park! 🔴

Last week, Mosaic House members and staff headed out to Jim Dietrich Park to celebrate one of our favorite clubhouse traditions: Potato Day.

For the uninitiated, Potato Day is exactly what it sounds like: a joyful celebration of all things potato, from the food to the fellowship that comes with sharing a great meal together. Members and staff came out in full force for a day packed with delicious potato-inspired food, plenty of laughs, and the kind of genuine community that makes Mosaic House such a special place.

Days like this are a perfect reminder of what the Clubhouse model is all about: building connections, creating traditions, and finding joy together. Here's to many more Potato Days ahead.

What Does the Rebrand Mean to Us? — Ben Foster, Communications Staff Member🔴

For Ben, Threshold's rebrand is about more than a new look. It's a declaration of intent.

"The rebrand represents a renewed commitment to the clients we support. Threshold is going out of its way to make itself known and broadcast its services to a wider audience."

When an organization that has quietly served its community for 61 years decides to raise its voice, the people it serves are the reason why. That's what this rebrand means to Ben and to all of us at Threshold.
Stay tuned as we continue to share what this milestone means to the people behind it.

From Ford to forward progress! 🔴

Pictured is Threshold's HQ - circa 1976 - when it served as a Ford dealership for the Berks County community.

For 61 years, Threshold has been part of Berks County's story—empowering individuals and serving our community. What once sold cars now provides life-changing support services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental health needs.

Every week, we're sharing glimpses into our incredible 60-year history. What memories do you have of Berks County in the '70s?

Celebrating 61 years of Threshold with a new look that reflects our tireless commitment to those we serve. Be on the lookout for our new website, launching this week with a blog post about our journey and what this rebrand means for our community. Same mission, evolved vision.
