🙈 Documentation is everything, so is confirming it!

Your IBCLC shouldn’t be sending you in to your provider blind to ask for random tests. We all need to work together to identify what is needed!

In the Low Supply Course for Healthcare Providers you will have decision trees, lists of labs, optimal values, and MORE to help facilitate this relationship. Comment LINK and we will send you the link to enroll!

This week a courtroom argued over how long postpartum lasts. 3 weeks. 3 months. 4 months. Grown professionals debating a number no mother’s body has ever agreed to.

And here is the part that should stop you cold: postpartum psychosis, one of the most dangerous emergencies in all of psychiatry, is not even its own diagnosis in the DSM. The closest label cuts off at 4 weeks postpartum. Four weeks. For a condition that can begin months after birth.

That’s also why experts argue it causes real harm: the label drives treatment, insurance coding, and legal defense, and a condition with its own onset pattern, its own biology, and its own recurrence risk is being filed under illnesses it doesn’t quite match.

We are not here to argue any case. We are here for the millions of mothers healing from something enormous while the systems around them cannot even agree on when their recovery is allowed to end.

Postpartum lasts as long as mom says it does. Swipe. Then send this to a mother who needs it today. 🤍

Going cash-only would be the easiest. No endless appeals, no fighting with insurance over absurd policies, no unpaid (!!!) time spent trying to make sure parents get the care they need.

But that’s not what most families can afford. And that’s not what makes lactation care accessible.

So, we keep fighting — even when insurance companies make it feel impossible. Because every family deserves support without having to choose between feeding their baby and paying their bills.

Parents: You’re not alone in this.we’re in your corner.keep complaining to your insurance, call, send letters!
IBCLCs: Let’s keep pushing for change. The system is broken, but we’re not giving up!

What would you tell insurance companies if you could? Drop your thoughts below.

Feeding your baby in the first few days looks a lot different than it does by week 2 and later.

The first few days are focused on feeding frequency, monitoring wet and dirty diapers, and making sure you are getting the support you need!

SPECTRA PUMP SETTINGS

Turn on your pump and then immediately press the middle wave button (bacon button) on cycle 70.

Adjust the vacuum to the lowest most productive setting (+ and -). A higher setting does NOT mean more milk!

Once a letdown occurs- you either feel it OR notice milk spraying, press the wave button again to go into expression mode. Set at cycle 54 and monitor how your body responds. Make changes based on milk removal to go up or down in cycle speed.

Once the milk slows down again, go BACK into cycle 70 to stimulate another letdown. Repeat this process 2-3 times for a total of 15-25min to complete your session.
