The End Brain Cancer Initiative (EBCI) has been working with the National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) and others to advocate for grant funding for the Pediatric Early Phase Clinical Trials Network (PEP-CTN).

We and the other signers recently sent an official letter strongly urging the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to fully fund the PEP-CTN at its requested $7.5 million level for Grant Year 8 and provide sustained multi-year funding to ensure long-term stability and growth in order to help address the URGENT need for innovative treatments for children with brain tumors.

Anthony Letai, Director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), replied to the funding request letter saying that, "NCI intends to continue supporting the PEP-CTN as it fully assumes and transitions the historic PBTC portfolio across Grant Years 8 through 10. This multi-year funding commitment will support clinical trial operations, scientific leadership, and imaging capabilities, administrative modernization, and new approaches, including the use of artificial intelligence, to improve trial efficiency and patient accrual."

This type of advocacy is crucial for the advancement of brain tumor/brain cancer treatments, research, and patient access. However, financial support for this type of EBCI Advocacy work is ONLY funded by individual donors.

GT Medical Technologies, a company focused on improving the lives of patients with brain tumors, announced the publication of the results of the randomized, multicenter ROADS trial (NCT04365374) as a Rapid Communication in the Journal of Clinical Oncology (JCO), the official journal of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).

The End Brain Cancer Initiative was proud to partner with GT Medical on the ROADS trial to increase patient access through education, awareness, outreach, and enrollment support.

The data demonstrate that patients with newly diagnosed operable brain metastases treated with tumor removal surgery and GammaTile® cesium-131 collagen tile-based radiation therapy (TBRT) experienced lower local tumor recurrence and lived significantly longer compared to the standard-of-care approach of surgery followed by post-operative stereotactic radiation therapy (SRT).

In the manuscript's conclusion, the study authors state that GammaTile® should be considered a standard-of-care option for patients with newly diagnosed brain metastases.
