Hellllo June 👋🏻
Is it just us or did May go by in a flash?
It certainly was a buzzy busy one at WRW, starting off with our 5-day Bhagavad Gita retreat with , then going straight into logistical planning so that .sarah.nelson could enjoy a big family sojourn to Europe. (Thank you SO much to our lovely subs for holding down the group classes 🙏🏻 ). Even our Ayurvedic bookings hit an all-time high thanks to the lovely guests at .commons who enjoyed full- and partial- abhyanga sessions during their stay. It was such a treat to see some new faces and to kick off the Hilltown High Season with a serious buzz 🐝

June is a big month as we celebrate TWO YEARS in our Hilltown home! We’re keeping the schedule to its original flow (peep our story), but we have a few fun pop-up events in the horizon. We’ll let you know about those real soon, and in the meantime hope you drink up all this late-spring radiance 🌿🌼✨

Loving these sunny Monday’s ✨

It’s very *Hilltowns* to go from cold rainy early-spring vibes to immediate summer, but these sunshiny days make that long cold season worth it. Don’t you agree??

Note that this week we have some special substitutes for all group classes. Peep our latest story or pinned post to find out who’s teaching next.

Plus, our 5-week Pilates Fundamentals series is still going strong until the end of the month. Drop-ins welcome - your back and future posture will thank you.

Life has been showing up at high volume of late. May is bursting out all over… leaves! grass! blossoms! There’s been much joy - our teachers from India were here and shared their wisdom and caring generously; a friend surprised me with a visit, and we spent time in a pasture with about twenty gamboling lambs, and then gathered dinner from an endless sea of ramps; another friend is freshly and totally in love. There’s been much to celebrate.

And also a lot to mourn. One in my circle lost her husband in a tragic accident; another is facing eviction; illness, both mental and physical, is impacting several loved ones. People often say,“It’s a lot.” Well, yes, it is. The world is wild, it is too much with us, and we all suffer in our turn. Sometimes it feels like all 10,000 things are running around my head at once.

During the yoga retreat, I slept poorly five nights out of seven, body exhausted, mind racing, heart hurting. Too many details, too much pain in my awareness. During the day, I taught my classes, held space for the retreat, and as much as possible, sank gratefully into the role of student, sitting humbly at the feet of my teachers, and the timeless wisdom they were delivering; I was nourished by their grace, the light of the ancient teachings, and good company. Hard nights, beautiful days - both realities true.

Taoism speaks of The 10,000 Things; yoga calls it prakriti, an ever-evolving reordering of cosmic energy. Twice this week, I cried in the arms of a friend, knocked off my feet by some of those swirlings. And, too, the birds sing before dawn these days; yesterday I placed a hundred dainty onions in the ground; the quince has bloomed; and I’m about to leave to visit ancestral lands with my family. Vedic wisdom says the fullness of experience is the point, and that there’s also that which lies beyond it.

Tonight I board a jet bound for Germany. I’m traveling without my laptop, so will take a break from these musings until June. In the meantime, thanks for being here, and be well.

May schedule drop!
(Even if it’s already half-way through the month.. 🫠🤫).

We had a busy few weeks of deep planning and study for our long-awaited retreat, Total Knowledge, which concluded this weekend. This 5-day experience was nourishing on all levels and we’re excited to share more of the process with you soon.

This continues to be a big month at the studio as our dear .sarah.nelson heads out on an epic European adventure with family to visit distant cousins. In spite of her absence, all group classes and programming will continue as usual with a cohort of sweet substitutes to fill in. Peep the image to find out who’s leading what when.

Later this month we’re delighted to welcome back to guide you through a restorative yoga class while .joy provides some sonic ambiance. This offering filled up last time, so drop us a dm to reserve your space! (May 28, 7-8:30✨)

If you’re looking for some extra spring nourishment, we have a limited number of full or partial abhyanga sessions available that are certain to help you integrate the season of rest before the spring/summer buzz really pops off. Head to the b-i-o to book.

That’s it for now! Hope to see you at the studio soon 🌷

A moment for the treatment room… 🐚

Did you know we offer Ayurvedic body care at Wisdom Roots? One of our most beloved offerings is Abhyanga — a traditional warm-oil Ayurvedic treatment designed to nourish the body, soothe the nervous system, and invite deep rest.

There is something profoundly comforting about being tended to in this way. Through warm herbal oils and slow, rhythmic, mindful touch, these sessions support circulation, balance, grounding, and the feeling of being deeply cared for.

Abhyanga can be especially supportive for women in every season of life — from preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum to the many transitions and rhythms beyond. Truly, it is a beautiful offering for women of all ages.

We currently offer two options:
🌿 A full 90-minute treatment
🌿 A 45-minute head, neck & scalp-focused session

If you’ve been looking for a meaningful way to nourish yourself, or a thoughtful gift for a mother or special woman in your life, this may be just the thing. ✨

Link in our b-i-o to schedule or drop us a line and we'll be happy to help.

Join us *tonight* for a gentle and immersive evening exploring the beauty of Indian song and sound~

In this 90-minute experience, participants will be gently introduced to the foundational elements of Indian classical music, including an understanding of scales and how individual notes are thoughtfully arranged to create a raga—a melodic framework designed to evoke mood and feeling.

The evening will also include learning a simple bhakti (devotional) song, inviting participants to join their voices together in a shared musical expression.

We will close with a guided musical meditation, offering space to turn inward, rest in sound, and experience the subtle resonance of vibration within.

No musical background is necessary. This offering is open to all who feel called to listen, learn, and connect.

((Donation-based; led by classical Indian singer Sheela Shankar. This program takes place in the Wisdom Roots studio at .commons ))

This program, co-hosted with .commons , is led by the esteemed guidance of Ravi & Sheela Shankar from who are bringing participants through an integrated flow of asana, chanting, meditation, and contemplative study each day. Chef Melissa is keeping us divinely nourished and the cohort of participants are such kind, genuine seekers who add so much sweetness to this richly connective experience. We’re so proud of how this program has come together. 🥲
