💡Patient transfers rely on timely communication, especially when multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) are involved. Missing or delayed information can create risks for both patients and healthcare workers and lead to costly contact investigations across care settings.

Join us virtually on Thursday, June 11 as VHI’s Marcus Divers, MPA joins partners from the Virginia Department of Health, Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA), APIC, and PointClickCare for a discussion focused on strengthening communication during transitions of care.

This webinar will highlight:
🔎 VDH's new VDH MDRO Communication Guide
🚩 Optimizing MDRO Flags within Virginia’s system
🔁 Strategies to support safer patient transfers and infection prevention workflows

Join VHI CEO Kyle Russell and fellow leaders from across the community on June 10th at 1:00PM ET for an important discussion on the evolving role of APCDs and why these datasets matter far beyond cost and price transparency. 💡

In Virginia, we see firsthand how All-Payer Claims Data ( ) help organizations better understand healthcare access, utilization and outcomes. Beyond cost analysis, these datasets can support research, initiatives, quality improvement efforts and policy discussions by providing a more complete, longitudinal view of how patients interact with the healthcare system over time.

One way VHI's Emergency Department Care Coordination ( ) program supports is through partnership with the Healthcare-Associated Infections & Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR) program at the Virginia Department of Health.

💡The Multidrug Resistant Organism ( ) flag was introduced to help bridge the gap in facility communication.

These flags notify facilities when a patient with a history of MDRO status is admitted, ensuring infection control precautions are implemented as early as possible to reduce risk of transmission. MDRO flags confirm cases of Carbapenemase-producing organisms (CPO) and Candida auris and populate alerts in the EDCC portal and on EDIE reports for all particpating hospitals in Virginia.

🔎From 2025 into 2026, more than 3,700 encounters involving patients with an MDRO flag have occurred across engaged facilities statewide, while 46 hospitals have enabled targeted, real-time alerting by identifying specific individuals or teams to be notified when a flagged patient arrives at their facility.

💡The Public Health Reporting Pathway ( ) is a key part of that work. In partnership with CRISP Shared Services, VHI supports the technical infrastructure that securely moves 99.99% of public health messages between healthcare facilities and state entities.

The PHRP equips public health teams with the information needed to track emerging trends, support faster response efforts and improve outcomes throughout the Commonwealth.

💡A new study from Virginia Commonwealth University shows how use varied across Virginia during and after the COVID-19 pandemic and sheds light on disparities in access and use.

Using data from Virginia’s All-Payer Claims Database ( ), the team was able to examine real-world patterns in care delivery at scale, reinforcing the APCD’s role as a critical resource for evidence-based research.
